Specifically, recently, the Bay Management Board recorded the appearance of whales in the waters near Hon Mun Island - an area under the strict protection of the Nha Trang Marine Reserve. Through observing the morphology and behavior, it was initially determined that this was a Bryde's whale (Balaenoptera edeni) - a large, rare marine animal with special ecological value.
Bryde's whales are a protected species under Decree No. 06 dated January 22, 2019 of the Government . The appearance of whales near the shore is a particularly important ecological phenomenon, reflecting signs of marine environmental recovery. However, close approaches, noise or following by vehicles at sea can seriously affect the health and biological behavior of this species.
"Bryde's whales use low-frequency sound waves (infrasound) to navigate and communicate, so noise from engines, aircraft, loudspeakers, etc. can disrupt their biological functions and behavior," Mr. Van informed.

To protect marine animals and maintain the stability of the Nha Trang sea ecosystem, the Bay Management Board requires organizations and individuals operating in the sea area near where whales appear: Do not gather in large numbers around the area where whales appear; Reduce speed, limit noise, turn off the engine when stopping to observe; Do not approach, keep a minimum distance of 100m from whales; Do not drive vehicles to chase, block, separate mother fish from baby fish (if traveling in pairs) or intentionally drive the boat into the middle of the school of fish; Do not use flycams at low altitudes causing loud noise.
"In case of discovering whales or rare marine animals, it is necessary to immediately notify the Bay Management Board for guidance on coordinated protection. The Board also requests organizations and individuals to cooperate; any violations will be handled according to regulations," said Mr. Van.
As reported by SGGP, on July 22 and 28, people discovered and recorded a whale appearing in the sea area of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province. In addition, the appearance of whales in the sea areas of Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces has also been recorded, especially since June 2025, attracting the attention of many people. The frequent appearance of whales shows that this area has a clean, quiet marine environment and abundant food sources.
