Request Shopee, Lazada Vietnam to review functional food business

The Food Safety Department discovered that some functional foods that have not been granted a certificate of registration for product declaration are advertised and sold on e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada Vietnam.

Functional foods have not received product declaration

According to the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ), through post-inspection of the implementation of regulations on registration of declarations and self-declarations, production and trading of functional foods, this agency discovered a number of functional food products belonging to the group of health protection foods that have not been granted a certificate of registration of product declarations and are being traded on the e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada Vietnam.

Specifically, the products Omega 3-6-9 1600mg; Natto Kinase 4000fu; Estroven - complete multi - sympton; Kirkland glucosamine 1500mg & chondroitin 1200mg; Glucosamine 1500mg with MSM 1500mg, are advertised and sold on the Lazada e-commerce platform.

The Food Safety Department has issued an official dispatch requesting Lazada Vietnam E-commerce Company Limited and Shopee Company Limited to immediately stop trading, remove information about the above products, and urgently review the trading and electronic transactions of functional food products.

The leaders of the Food Safety Department also require e-commerce platforms to only trade in functional food products that have been granted a certificate of product declaration registration by a competent state management agency, or have been announced on the updated data information system on food safety according to regulations.

Previously, the Food Safety Department requested localities to strengthen inspection, post-inspection, and detection of advertising of food and functional foods on media, social networks, e-commerce sites, and e-commerce platforms, and strictly handle related violations.

Health agencies need to coordinate with competent authorities: Department of Science and Technology, local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, or Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Department of E-commerce ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) to manage e-commerce sites and e-commerce floors to identify violators and handle them according to current regulations.
