On the evening of August 30, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department (Gia Lai Provincial Department of Health ) has just reported the results of the investigation and verification of information about the food poisoning incident that occurred in Chrôh Pơnan village, Ia Hiao commune, Gia Lai province.
According to the report, at 11:00 a.m. on August 28, Mr. Ksor Doi (residing in Chrôh Pơnan hamlet, Ia Hiao commune) held a housewarming party with 220 guests at home. Mr. Doi hired the Nguyen Thi Hien business household (owned by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, born in 1975, residing in Thanh Binh hamlet, Ia Hiao commune) to cook the food.

Housewarming party with menu including: Dumplings, spring rolls, grilled meat, spring rolls, beef dipped in bitter melon, honey roasted chicken, double happiness sticky rice, lemongrass and chili stir-fried pork, beef salad, seafood hot pot, fresh noodles, yogurt, bottled beer, soft drinks and instant ice cubes.
At around 6pm the same day, the housewarming party guests showed symptoms of stomachache, diarrhea, nausea, and fever. In addition, after the party, some guests brought leftover food home for their families to eat, including: stir-fried pork with lemongrass and chili, honey-roasted chicken, beef salad, and double-happiness sticky rice. At 12pm the same day, these people continued to show symptoms of stomachache, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea.
At around 4:25 p.m. on August 29, the patients were taken to Phu Thien Medical Center and Ayun Pa Medical Center ( Gia Lai province) for treatment with symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, watery stools, headache, fever and were diagnosed with food poisoning.
According to the authorities, the patients were admitted to the hospital at different times. Of these, Phu Thien Medical Center admitted 58 patients and Ayun Pa Medical Center admitted 73 patients. In total, 131 patients were admitted to the hospital and all had the same symptoms. Authorities suspect that this was a case of food poisoning because they were unable to collect food samples from the housewarming party.
Currently, the patients' health has temporarily stabilized and they are being treated and monitored at Phu Thien Medical Center and Ayun Pa Medical Center.
