Teachers guide parents to register for grade 10 admission
Among 114 schools with about 96,000 candidates registering their wishes in Ho Chi Minh City, 20 high schools have the largest number of candidates registering their wishes for grade 10 with the following specific competition ratios:
According to the teacher in charge of grade 9 at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), the competition rate of each school depends on the number of candidates taking the exam and the enrollment quota of that high school.
Thus, among the 20 schools mentioned above, the two specialized high schools, Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia, have the highest competition ratios, 1/3.6 and 1/2.87 respectively.
However, according to experts, that is the general competition ratio for the whole school, and the competition ratio for each specialized class will be different . Normally, specialized English and math classes have a higher competition ratio than average.
Among the schools that recruit regular 10th graders, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District) still leads in the competition ratio with 1/2.87. Next are Thu Duc High School (Thu Duc City), Gia Dinh (Binh Thanh District), Phu Nhuan (Phu Nhuan District), Pham Van Sang (Hoc Mon District), Ho Thi Bi (Thu Duc City)...
According to regulations of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, after the Department announces the above initial registration data, parents and students will have the only time to adjust their 10th grade registration from May 15-21.
Mr. Vo Thien Cang, Head of the Examination and Quality Assessment Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, noted that if students want to change their 10th grade wishes, they must review their abilities again to determine whether it is convenient to move around during their future studies at the school they registered for.
Ms. Tran Thuy An, Principal of Minh Duc Secondary School (District 1), analyzed that the competition rate for each school is high or low depending on objective factors, whether the school has a high or low enrollment quota, an increase or decrease compared to the previous year. At the same time, Ms. An also emphasized that if a school sees that there are few students registering for grade 10 and "rushes" to adjust the selection, it is not optimal. Ms. An also noted that the Department of Education and Training only publishes data once and after that, no one knows how the preferences have been adjusted.
