A patient poisoned by alcohol suspected to be methanol is being treated at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of Kien Giang General Hospital.
According to a report from Kien Giang General Hospital, the hospital received 3 cases of alcohol poisoning suspected to be methanol, including Mr. HVL (45 years old), residing in Vinh Loi ward, Rach Gia city (Kien Giang); Mr. NHT (39 years old), residing in Ly Thuong Kiet quarter, Vinh Thanh ward, Rach Gia city (Kien Giang) and Mr. NTH (44 years old), residing in Vinh Thanh Van ward, Rach Gia city (Kien Giang).
All three cases were admitted to the Emergency Department of Kien Giang General Hospital and diagnosed with alcohol poisoning suspected to be methanol. The patients' relatives said that all three patients and some others (currently unknown condition) drank together on the morning of August 20, 2023. By the evening of August 20 and the morning of August 21, all three patients were admitted to the hospital with foaming at the mouth, cyanosis of the hands and feet, respiratory failure, and severe metabolic acidosis.
Specialist II Doctor Duong Phuoc Dong - Head of the Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poisoning, Kien Giang General Hospital said that patients HVL and NHT are currently on ventilators and continuous blood filtration at the Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poisoning. Patient NTH received emergency IHD blood filtration at the Department of Nephrology, then transferred to the Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poisoning for continued monitoring. All 3 cases are currently in critical condition.
