Metro line 1
Approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in 2007 and started in 2012, on December 22, metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) with a cost of more than 43,700 billion VND officially began operation.
Metro Line 1 opens up a mass transit method, connecting the central area with the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City with a length of 19.7km (2.6km underground and 17.1km above ground), including 14 stations (3 underground, 11 above ground) and the 20ha Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City.
Metro Line 1 has 17 trains, each with 3 cars, with a capacity of 930 passengers (147 seated and 783 standing). The train runs at a maximum speed of 110km/h for the elevated section and 80km/h for the underground section.
On average, there are 9 trains operating every day, running from 5am to 10pm with about 200 trips. The frequency of each trip is 8-12 minutes. The journey from Suoi Tien terminal station (near the new Mien Dong bus station, Thu Duc) to Ben Thanh station, District 1 is about 30 minutes.
As of December 30, after 9 days of official operation, metro line 1 has served 998,124 passengers with a total of 1,762 train trips, averaging more than 566 passengers/trip.
Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho underpass
On December 30, the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection in District 7 opened the tunnel branch from Binh Chanh District to District 7, marking the completion of the first phase of the project with a total investment of VND830 billion. Previously, in early October, the tunnel branch from District 7 to Binh Chanh District was opened to traffic.
Ho Chi Minh City implemented the project to build the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection phase 1 with an investment capital of 830 billion VND in April 2020. The project has a scale of building 2 tunnel branches in each direction of Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, each tunnel is 456m long with 3 lanes, with a roundabout above and branches.
When put into use, the project will contribute to reducing traffic congestion at the southern gateway intersection of Ho Chi Minh City, while creating ventilation for the main route connecting the city center with Nha Be district and Hiep Phuoc port.
Upgrading and expanding National Highway 50
A parallel road to National Highway 50 was put into operation by Ho Chi Minh City on December 30, helping to reduce traffic pressure on the existing national highway.
This is a segment of the National Highway 50 expansion project (through Binh Chanh district), which started construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND. The entire project is nearly 7km long, starting from the intersection with Nguyen Van Linh Street to the border of Long An province.
Of which, about 4.2km will be a new route parallel to Highway 50, the remaining section will be expanded to 34m with 6 lanes. Due to land clearance issues, about 2km will be opened to traffic first, the rest is expected to be completed next year.
Tran Quoc Hoan – Cong Hoa connecting road
The project started construction on December 24, 2022 with a total investment of VND 4,848 billion, expected to be completed in 2024 but was delayed due to site clearance problems.
However, over the past year, many important items of the project have been completed and put into operation, contributing to reducing traffic congestion at the gateway area of Tan Son Nhat airport.
Specifically, on August 10, the 200 billion VND underpass across the Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan intersection officially opened to traffic after 1.5 years of construction. The scale of this project is 600m long, 30m wide with 6 lanes. Of which, the underpass is 402m long, including a closed tunnel section 42m long, 9.75m wide and an open tunnel section 360m long, 9.25m wide.
By early November, the 120 billion VND package connecting the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen underpass, the section connecting Thang Long - 18E - Cong Hoa streets, was also opened to traffic.
According to schedule, the entire Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project will be completed before April 30, 2025, in sync with the Tan Son Nhat airport T3 terminal construction project under construction.
In 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City transport sector will complete many important projects such as: Cay Kho bridge across Ong Lon canal connecting Nha Be district with Binh Chanh district opened to traffic on the morning of August 30 after 6 years of construction, with a total investment of 500 billion VND.
On October 2, the Nam Ly Bridge project (VND 731 billion) was put into operation, removing the bottleneck at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City after 8 years of construction.
On November 28, Rach Dia bridge on Le Van Luong street with a cost of more than 500 billion VND also reached the finish line, helping people in District 7 and Nha Be district (HCMC) to travel conveniently.
On December 30, Long Phuoc bridge connecting District 7 with Nha Be district with a total investment of nearly 740 billion VND and the project to upgrade and expand Tan Ky Tan Quy road with a total investment of nearly 1,200 billion VND were opened to traffic.
