According to the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, each student in grades 6 and 7 can register to participate in the gifted student competition in one of three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, or English.
Eighth-grade students can register to participate in the gifted student competition in one of six subjects, including literature, mathematics, English, natural science (choose one of three knowledge areas: energy and transformation, matter and the transformation of matter, living things), history and geography (choose one of two sub-disciplines: history or geography), and computer science.
This year, the gifted student competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders is being held at 8 testing locations: Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School, Hoa Lu Secondary School, Phuoc Binh Secondary School, Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School, Luong Dinh Cua Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School, Le Quy Don Secondary School, and Thai Van Lung Secondary School.
Thu Duc is one of the few districts that organizes the gifted student competition for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 (usually, districts only organize this competition for students in grade 9).

Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, head of the Education and Training Department of Thu Duc City, said that the gifted student competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders is organized to create an academic playground and promote the movement of good teaching and good learning. At the same time, it aims to identify and nurture talented students to participate in the city-level 9th grade gifted student competition team.
This exam is for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who have achieved a good academic record or higher and have received a good or higher rating in their conduct during the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year.
