Coffee contains caffeine – one of the best energy drinks in the world, offering numerous health benefits.

1. Drinking too much coffee

Caffeine is the agent behind the stimulating effects of coffee. While coffee can provide a temporary energy boost and improve attention span, excessive consumption can be detrimental to health. Too much caffeine increases the risk of insomnia, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular problems.

Therefore, limit your daily caffeine intake to no more than 3 cups.

2. Not drinking enough water

Coffee has diuretic properties, causing increased urination, which can lead to dehydration. While it's important to stay hydrated throughout the day, drinking coffee makes this even more crucial. Dehydration can cause symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and impaired cognitive function. So, remember to drink plenty of water.

3. Add cream to your coffee.

Coffee isn't hot chocolate to add cream to! Many people like to add cream to their coffee to enhance the flavor, but doing so can lead to weight gain and other adverse health effects.

4. Adding more sugar and condensed milk to the coffee.

Reduce the amount of sugar and condensed milk added to your coffee. Good coffee should have a slightly acidic taste, so don't make it too sweet. Adding too much sugar and milk can ultimately lead to more fat accumulation, which can then develop into fatty liver disease, contribute to diabetes, and increase the risk of heart disease.

Consuming too much added sugar can promote chronic inflammation and high blood pressure, both of which are major disease pathways leading to heart disease.

5. Drinking coffee that is too hot.

According to a recent study published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine (PubM) , drinking excessively hot beverages such as water, tea, and coffee increases the risk of developing esophageal cancer. Overly hot drinks can harm the esophagus and triple the risk of developing cancer. Let your coffee cool down a bit before drinking to avoid this risk.

6. Drink coffee before bed.

Coffee is helpful when you need to stay awake all night. However, it's generally not advisable to drink coffee right before bed as it can disrupt sleep.
