The Spanish Football Federation and the Technical Refereeing Committee have sacked six VAR referees following allegations of racist abuse towards Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr.
The Spanish Football Federation and the Refereeing Commission have decided to punish referee Iglesias Villanueva for the VAR of the Real Madrid-Valencia match, following the controversy surrounding Vinicius' red card at the Mestalla stadium.
Nacho Iglesias Villanueva was immediately suspended from his job at the tournament's VAR department, and five others will be out of work from next season.
Spanish football today became hotter than ever because of the story of striker Vinicius Junior being racially discriminated against by Valencia fans and then being sent off at the end of the match after hitting the home team player. This player then angrily criticized the referee and La Liga's Organizing Committee for being indifferent to the discriminatory acts aimed at him, causing waves of fierce controversy.
Recently, FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed sympathy for Vinicius' anger, and expressed outrage at racism. He said: "I want to express my solidarity with Vinicius. There is no place for racism in football or in society, and FIFA stands completely on the player's side in a situation like what happened.
When racist behaviour occurs, first you have to stop the game. Then the players have to leave the field of play. If the racist behaviour continues, the game has to be stopped. When the game resumes, if the racist behaviour continues, the game has to be abandoned and the team whose fans were racist must lose."
