60 teams participate in the National 7-a-side football tournament, a record number

Today, May 15, the 2025 Bia Saigon Dragon Cup 7-a-side national football championship (VPL-S6) with the largest scale ever in the history of 7-a-side football tournaments in Vietnam has just officially kicked off.

This year, the VPL-S6 national 7-a-side football championship will officially start from May 18th simultaneously in 8 regions nationwide including: Northern region ( Hanoi ); Southern region (Ho Chi Minh City); Central Highlands region (Gia Lai); Western region (Can Tho); Northeast region (Hai Phong); North Central region (Nghe An); Central region (Da Nang) and South Central region (Khanh Hoa). The strongest teams of the region will compete in the grand national final round taking place in Hanoi at the end of July.

A total of 60 teams are expected to compete in 248 matches, an increase of nearly 100 matches compared to the 2024 season.

In particular, this year's tournament will have a "showmatch" for the first time, with the best faces of the 7-a-side field, along with professional football stars, national and former Vietnamese national players.

Also this year, the third season of the international 7-a-side tournament is expected to be held in August with the participation of representatives from the region including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia...

Mr. Pham Ngoc Tuan, General Director of VietFootball Joint Stock Company, Head of the tournament's Organizing Committee, said that VPL 2025 will be organized on the largest scale ever, with 8 regions nationwide. The Organizing Committee wants to develop the VPL tournament and 7-a-side football in Vietnam more deeply, contributing to creating a solid foundation for football, thereby inspiring the spirit of sportsmanship and national spirit.

The 7-a-side football tournament VPL-S6 is accompanied by the Vietnam Sports Administration, VFF, local departments of culture, sports and tourism and partners with the slogan "Football for the community".

This is an activity in response to the "World Football Week" launched by FIFA and the United Nations (May 21 - 25, 2025) with the theme "Together, We Are Stronger", thereby affirming the role of football in connecting communities, overcoming cultural, linguistic and national boundaries. All matches are broadcast live on the ecosystem of MyTV and Meta Multimedia.
