TPO - 60 years ago (March 24, 1963 - March 24, 2023), the patriotic emulation movement of Vietnamese children was initiated and launched by teacher Nguyen Duc Thin, General Director of Children, with the name "Thousands of Good Deeds" and quickly spread, becoming a "nursery of intelligence, virtue and talent" - a pure environment, imbued with human love for children to cultivate, train, become good citizens, serving to build the homeland.

On March 24, 1963, in the jubilant and bustling atmosphere of the extracurricular activity "Step forward to the Union", the Young Pioneers' Union of Tam Son Secondary School, Tu Son District, Bac Ninh Province organized labor to plant trees on both sides of the road leading to the house of comrade Ngo Gia Tu - one of the founders of the Communist Party of Vietnam . Teacher Nguyen Duc Thin, General Director of Children, a former member of the heroic Dinh Bang Guerrilla Youth Team, had the initiative to launch the movement "Competition to do a thousand good deeds, practice Uncle Ho's 5 teachings, strive to become Uncle Ho's good children", abbreviated as "Thousand good deeds".

Immediately after the movement was launched, the atmosphere of studying and working at Tam Son Secondary School became enthusiastic and lively, more than 300 students and teachers became unusually excited and enthusiastic. Every day, the young pioneers recorded good deeds in the golden book, the students lovingly helped each other to progress. A student wore a red scarf incorrectly, and was still messy, so another student immediately corrected it for him. A student was sick, the students in the class took turns visiting, caring for him, and copying his lessons. A student had a sore leg and could not go to school, so the students took turns carrying him to class. An old man leaning on a cane on a muddy road was brought home by the students. A heavily loaded cart was slowly climbing a hill in the blazing sun, and the students immediately gathered to help the cart move up,...

At home, the children themselves help herd cattle, pigs, take care of chickens, help their parents with meals and many other household chores. Many similar situations make teachers and parents overwhelmed with emotion. Good deeds have permeated their blood and become daily habits, forming the foundation for cultivating good qualities in the children. Their love spreads to adults. The children are obedient and friendly to each other, enthusiastically doing good deeds, and their parents also become more fond of each other. A civilized lifestyle and humane behavior make the village and neighborhood relationships warmer and more friendly.
“Good news travels fast” - just 5 days after Tam Son Secondary School launched the “Thousand Good Deeds” movement, the Young Pioneer Newspaper published a front page story on March 29, 1963 with the title “A new activity worth welcoming”, stating: “There is nothing better than each of our Teams and Team members competing to do many good deeds to carry out the 5 teachings of Uncle Ho. I hope that the Teams will respond to this new activity of Tam Son Team, launch the “Thousand Good Deeds” movement in their schools and villages, making good people and good deeds flourish like a season of blooming flowers”.
At the 12th Conference of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union (term III), the movement “Doing a thousand good deeds to practice Uncle Ho’s 5 teachings” was evaluated as a movement with comprehensive educational effects for teenagers and children and was decided to develop extensively in the activities of the Team and the children’s movement. In that spirit, the “Thousand good deeds” movement was quickly expanded, attracting almost all teenagers, children and Team organizations in localities across the country to participate in many forms: building learning habits; maintaining hygiene in schools, villages; taking care of families of war invalids, martyrs, and lonely elderly people; working to help families, supporting production cooperation, protecting public property, making small plans, etc.

Through practical and concrete actions, teenagers and children have contributed significantly to building a more and more innovative homeland, with spacious schools and clean village roads and alleys. Many teenagers have grown up from the movement, constantly striving and training to become good citizens, good production workers, scientists , engineers, doctors, senior military officers, and people who are useful in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland...
Besides, the movement had a strong and widespread influence on international children in Berlin (Germany) in 1971, Ulanbato (Mongolia) in 1975, Vientiane (Laos) in 1988...

Through the propaganda and dissemination of the experience of the Team's activities as well as the educational goal right from high school with the arithmetic calculation of being human, successfully built by teacher Nguyen Duc Thin: "Do a thousand good deeds, eliminate bad deeds, multiply love, share sympathy" so that each person becomes more attached and life becomes more and more beautiful. Everywhere, the movement is enthusiastically responded by children. Developing from the movement "Thousand good deeds", there are many bright examples praised from movements such as: Overcoming difficulties to study, Bravely saving friends, Raising piggy banks - helping poor friends go to school, Filial children, Picking up lost things and returning them to the owner, Silk shirt for grandmother, Repaying gratitude, I love my homeland's sea and islands, Children protecting the environment... thereby helping Vietnamese children grow up, study, create, build their homeland and country.

The “Thousand Good Deeds” movement was praised by Uncle Ho at the Special Political Conference held at Ba Dinh Hall - Hanoi on March 27, 1964. Uncle Ho praised: “Our children are very good, studious, and hard-working. Many children have bravely saved their friends in danger, many children have honestly returned lost property, loved and helped each other, and competed to do thousands of good deeds...”.
In order to promptly encourage and commend children who do good deeds and spread the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement more and more widely, the Central Youth Union and the Central Young Pioneer Council regularly direct Youth Union and Young Pioneer chapters at all levels to organize activities to commend children who do thousands of good deeds at the grassroots level.

After 60 years of maintenance and development, the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement has been constantly improved in both theory and practice, gradually developing more and more deeply, showing in all aspects of the Team's activities. Under the guidance and responsibility of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Team, effectively promoting the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement, aiming to concretize the 5 teachings of Uncle Ho, the emulation movements of children have increasingly flourished, creating a spreading and popularizing force in the teams, meeting the requirements in the new situation. Typical programs and movements include: "Vietnamese children compete to follow the 5 teachings of Uncle Ho"; "Training team members", "Vietnamese children study well and practice diligently"; "Vietnamese youth - Cultivating virtue and talent, leading the future"; "For a green school"; "I love science, young technology talents", "Read and follow the Team newspaper"; “Small plan”; “Overcoming difficulties to study well”, “Friends helping friends”, “A pair of friends progressing together”, “Good study hours, good study days”, “Mizuiku - I love clean water”; “Silk shirt for grandma”, “A shirt for friends”, “Meaningful addresses”, “Finding red addresses” and the campaign “Friends' arms”…

Many Youth Union chapters and officials in charge of the Team have regularly organized scientific activities, thematic activities, discussions, in-depth research on Uncle Ho's teachings, applied them to education, organized activities for teenagers and children suitable for each age group, making them increasingly imbued with Uncle Ho's teachings. Typical examples include organizing thematic activities "Every week a beautiful story, a good book, a shining example"; "Building beautiful friendships, saying no to school violence"; "Speaking good words, doing good deeds"...
Through these movements, children across the country have been enriched with knowledge, trained in skills and educated in the fine traditions of the Vietnamese revolution and people, becoming a great source of motivation that has been leading and motivating tens of millions of Vietnamese team members, teenagers and children to promote the spirit of solidarity and mutual love, contributing to nurturing and forming good qualities in children.

Ms. Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, said that to practically celebrate the 60th anniversary of the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers launched 6 weeks of peak competition from February 13 to March 26, 2023, associated with promoting the implementation of the program "Vietnamese Children - Study well, practice diligently" with weekly topics such as: "Read books every day"; "Share love"; "Protect the environment"; "Competition to study well"; "Healthy exercise - practice skills"; "Step up to the Youth Union".

Many major activities were carried out nationwide, such as: organizing Team and Children's Star activities associated with the campaign "A beautiful story, a good book, a shining example every week"; organizing a photo contest of "Thousand Good Deeds" for children today, from February 15 to May 15, 2023, to introduce creative and meaningful activities, typical children's examples in the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement; at the same time, creating a spreading force for team members and children to strive together to become "Thousand Good Deeds" heroes.
In addition, organize the Color Festival - a painting contest for children in 2023 with the theme "Vietnamese Children - Do thousands of good deeds" from March 24 to May 31, 2023. Thereby introducing emulation activities of children to study and follow the 5 teachings of Uncle Ho through beautiful actions and good deeds; reflecting the spirit of solidarity, diligence, striving to excel in studying, training, living and in daily life of children; actively participating in activities and movements of the Team, contributing to building a strong Vietnam.
Organize the festival "Healthy Children - Stepping Up to the Union" with the theme "Doing good deeds with you every day" (from March 19-26, 2023).

The peak week of the 60th Anniversary of the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement will take place from March 20-26, 2023, with activities such as: Organizing a Workshop to promote the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement. On this occasion, 1,000 outstanding children in implementing the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement will be commended at the Central level; among them, the Central Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers will commend 263 outstanding "Thousand Good Deeds Heroes" at the national level at the 60th Anniversary of the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement, taking place on March 24, in Bac Ninh City.
Ms. Nguyen Pham Trang, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, said that in preparation for the 60th anniversary of the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement, from December 2021, the Central Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers launched the Good Deeds application. "Up to this point, nearly 1.5 million team members and children nationwide have participated in the application, with more than 36 million good deeds of children nationwide being spread," Ms. Trang informed. After the 60th anniversary program, the Central Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers will continue to implement many other meaningful programs and activities, especially applying technology and digital transformation to spread humanistic values and beautiful stories of the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement more widely.
The 60th anniversary of the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement (March 24, 1963 - March 24, 2023) and the national "Thousand Good Deeds Heroes" commendation ceremony were jointly organized by the Central Youth Union, the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, and the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province at 8:00 p.m. on March 24, at Kinh Bac Cultural Center, Bac Ninh City, Bac Ninh Province.
