80th National Day: Vietnam - a global inspiration

On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly declared the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam – the first people’s democratic state in Southeast Asia. That was the moment that opened a new era for the Vietnamese nation, and at the same time aroused faith and hope for hundreds of millions of people around the world who were fighting for independence and freedom.

Eighty years have passed, but the echoes of that autumn still resonate far and wide. On this important anniversary, many international politicians, scholars and journalists, in discussions with the Vietnamese press, affirmed that the victory of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd is a "beacon" that lights the way for oppressed peoples across the five continents.

A historic turning point – a perspective from Argentina

From South America, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Argentina Jorge Kreyness emphasized that the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was a historic turning point not only for Vietnam, but also for the entire Indochina region.

According to him, in the context of the defeat of fascism and the rising movement for national independence, leader Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam seized the opportunity wisely to seize power and establish the first people's democratic state in Southeast Asia. "That was a great victory of the Vietnamese revolutionary forces under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh," Mr. Kreyness affirmed.

He also stressed that Vietnam's victory in 1945 inspired national liberation movements on many continents, contributed to the formation of the Non-Aligned Movement and strengthened the stance against imperialism globally. Since then, he said, "the Vietnamese people have come a long way, from war to unification, from poverty to development, moving towards building socialism."

Beacon of Hope – a view from Germany

In Europe, Professor Michael Brie, a German philosopher and social scientist, called the success of the August Revolution a "beacon" of hope for anti-imperialists around the world.

He emphasized that the spirit of independence, self-reliance and self-reliance is the decisive factor for victory, clearly demonstrated in the two resistance wars against France and the US as well as in the post-war nation-building process. Despite facing embargoes, natural disasters and epidemics, Vietnam still focuses on developing a self-reliant economy, promoting innovation and social solidarity.

Eighty years after its independence, Vietnam has transformed itself from a poor, war-torn country into a country with an increasingly prominent role in the international community. Vietnam contributes to peacekeeping missions, assumes a leadership role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), hosts many major conferences, plays a constructive role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, and is considered a reliable and responsible partner.

The achievements since Doi Moi in 1986 have further consolidated the country’s position: rapid economic growth, significant poverty reduction, progress in education, health care and infrastructure, and the development of the digital economy and middle class. The effective response to challenges, whether financial crisis, pandemic or climate change, has demonstrated the capacity of governance, strong public participation, reflecting the enduring strength of the Vietnamese people and the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of Israel Reem Hazan sent warm congratulations to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and affirmed the strong inspirational role of the Vietnamese Revolution in progressive movements around the world.

The representative of the Communist Party of Israel emphasized that Vietnam and the Communist Party of Vietnam have long been a source of inspiration for the Communist Party of Israel, as well as revolutions around the world.

According to Ms. Hazan, Vietnamese history has proven that even a small nation can defeat imperialism and gain self-determination – a valuable lesson for movements fighting for justice, freedom and independence.

According to her, the Israeli Communist Party especially values Vietnam's experience: "We can learn from the Communist Party of Vietnam in how to plan long-term strategies, put the interests of the people first and steadfastly pursue the goal of building socialism."

Military Epic – Feelings from Cuba

Meanwhile, from Havana, journalist Roberto Molina of the Prensa Latina news agency (Cuba) approached the 1945 event with great emotion. He compared the August Revolution to "the heroic military epic of the Vietnamese people", proving the strength of national unity and becoming a source of inspiration for the independence movement in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

He assessed that in a short period of history, the Vietnamese people have overcome great challenges to achieve great achievements in economics, society and politics. From food production, technology, industry, infrastructure to culture and arts, Vietnam has affirmed its increasingly solid position in ASEAN, in international organizations and on the world stage.

According to journalist Molina, the entire Vietnamese national movement and masses created the victory in 1945, leading to the birth of an independent, democratic state. "It is a powerful proof that when the entire people are united, no foreign power can subdue them," he affirmed.

The Cuban journalist also emphasized that since the victory in 1945, Vietnam has continued to create many miracles: the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, the liberation of the South in 1975, and then strongly rising in the cause of renovation and international integration. According to him, these achievements further highlight the original value of the August Revolution, proving that the flame of independence from Ba Dinh in 1945 has never been extinguished, but still burns brightly throughout the historical journey of the Vietnamese people.

From South America, Europe, the Middle East to the Caribbean, diverse voices but the same message: The August Revolution and Vietnam's National Day on September 2 are global events, not only the pride of the Vietnamese people but also a great source of encouragement for progressive movements around the world.

The flame of independence lit at Ba Dinh Square in the fall of 1945 has gone beyond the borders of Vietnam, becoming an immortal symbol of humanity's desire for freedom, justice and peace. And as Professor Michael Brie said, it is a "lighthouse" - not only illuminating the Vietnamese people on the path of development, but also guiding millions of people around the planet to find the faith and strength to decide their own future.
