Even though she is sometimes criticized for not singing well, runner-up Kieu Loan, stage name Lona, 23 years old, said she is trying to become a singer.
Having won the runner-up title of Miss World Vietnam 2019, after the competition, Lona switched to singing. She said that she had never thought of pursuing a career in performing, however, when she entered showbiz and had the opportunity to express herself, she gradually discovered her abilities.
She chose rap to start her career through playgrounds such as "Born to be a pair", "King of Rap", "The Heroes", introducing her self-composed songs. Lona was criticized by many people for her unsteady rhythm, unrhymed rap, and unclear singing. "Many people doubted me when I wanted to become a singer because many beautiful people who sing are criticized for not being capable enough", she said.

To stick with the profession, the singer initially had to overcome her family's objections. She studied International Business at Da Nang University, intending to do other jobs. When she turned to singing, Lona and her parents had conflicts. The climax was when Lona hid from her family members the cosmetic surgery on her eyes, breasts and nose, changing her image to support her singing career. The beauty cried a lot and apologized for disappointing her parents.
After many discussions with her family, the singer said she felt relieved. She said: "My family now sympathizes with my daughter's choice, which reduces my pressure. I am happy because I can now earn money from my job, helping my relatives have a better life."
In May, the runner-up spent three weeks in Korea to attend a vocal and dance training course. To create something new, she invested in performances in English and Korean, experimenting with many music genres such as RnB, Latin, and hip hop.
Lona released "Do you think I'll ever forget you" on June 6 - her second MV in two years of pursuing a singing career. Having followed Lona's activities for a long time, musician Do Hieu - the song's composer - said he saw her dedication and perseverance.
Lona's efforts have gradually been recognized by experts. Many famous rappers such as Kimmese, Dat Maniac, LK, Big Daddy commented that she has a good voice and colorful rap style. Lona also surprised the audience when she sang live with Thu Minh (song Duong Cong ), Vu Cat Tuong (mashup Stardom - Don't you go ).
"Lona didn't have any formal music training but her voice has a beautiful R&B color," said Vu Cat Tuong.
Director Hoang Nhat Nam once invited Lona to perform in the finals of Miss Vietnam, Miss Grand Vietnam, and Miss World Vietnam. According to him, the singer's confidence and stage presence made the crew feel secure when the show was broadcast live.
Ms. Pham Kim Dung - head of the runner-up's management unit - said the team is planning to produce more MVs and organize fan meetings to help Lona satisfy her passion and get closer to the audience.
