Born and raised in a land rich in traditional cultural identity, since childhood, A Troi (born in 1997), Kon Stiu village, Ngok Reo commune, Dak Ha district ( Kon Tum ) has been nurtured by the sounds of folk songs and gongs of the Xo Dang people - To D'ra branch. With a special passion, A Troi has strived to practice to breathe life into each traditional ethnic dance.
Recently, the image of the young man A Troi with a muscular body skillfully performing traditional dances has become an indispensable "spiritual food" for the audience of Dak Ha district at every local cultural event. The graceful movements, performed professionally by A Troi, almost attract all eyes from the audience.
A Troi shared: I have been passionate about it since I was little, because my mother is a xoang dancer. Every time my mother guides the older siblings to practice, I hear the sound of gongs and it seems to touch my heart, so I try to practice. For example, when pruning rice or other movements, I also try to practice so that the movements are true to the Central Highlands. I have also traveled to many places and interacted a lot, but when performing, I feel very confident.
With a passion that runs deep in his blood, A Troi was fortunate to be nurtured and guided by the previous generation, who had experience and knowledge of the traditional culture of the Xo Dang people in the village. Loving the child who was eager to learn, the experienced people in the village did not hesitate to share and pass on to A Troi a lot of knowledge and performance skills.
And the most special person associated with A Troi's life and passion is the excellent artisan Y Der - a person who gave birth to, nurtured and passed on his passion for culture to his son.
Meritorious artist Y Der said: Since he was a child, A Troi has loved to dance and sing traditional folk songs. Seeing my child's passion and interest, I was happy and pleased, so I taught him so that he could understand and love our traditions. Now seeing him dance gracefully, dance well, and perform for many people, I feel very happy. I will try to teach him more so that he can introduce the beauty and goodness of our people to more people, more people will like him.
In response to the expectations of his devoted mother, A Troi always strives to learn about the traditional culture of the Xo Dang people in particular and the unique features of the Central Highlands gong cultural space in general. In order for each performance to be both professional and clearly express the identity of his ethnic group, A Troi regularly participates in cultural exchange activities and performances of traditional cultures of ethnic groups in and outside the district.
A Troi shared: The more I learn, the more I realize that the traditional culture of each ethnic group has its own beauty, expressing the cultural beliefs, feelings, and richness of the spiritual life of each community. I myself also want to exchange and learn more from the traditional cultures of other ethnic groups, so that I can better understand the traditional cultures of other ethnic groups, to see the beauty and unique characteristics of my own ethnic culture.
Currently, A Troi regularly participates in the dance group of the Kon Tum Provincial Cultural and Artistic Center, performing at cultural events inside and outside the province. At the same time, as Secretary of the Kon Stiu Village Youth Union, Ngok Reo Commune, A Troi has gathered a folk art troupe of nearly 20 members aged 14 to 25, regularly practicing and performing for cultural events in Dak Ha District. The dynamism and professionalism in each movement of A Troi not only captivates the audience, but also impresses many folk artists in Dak Ha District.
Sharing about his future path to folk art, A Troi said: What I am most confident about myself is my love for the Central Highlands gong culture, which is big enough to be the motivation for me to continue to explore and research to collect folk songs and traditional xoang melodies of my people. From there, I will contribute with the younger generation to "revive" and spread the good traditional cultural values in the space of Central Highlands gong culture in modern life.
