Artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity dominated the World Internet Conference held in Zhejiang, China.
The World Internet Conference 2024, also known as the Wuzhen Summit (a famous riverside town), takes place from November 19 to 22 in Zhejiang Province, eastern China.
Launched in 2014, China's largest internet forum brings together international officials and tech companies to discuss issues such as technology trends, internet governance and responsible use of technology.
The World Internet Conference currently has more than 170 members from more than 30 countries and regions. Members such as IBM, Cisco, Nokia, Alibaba and smartphone maker Honor have confirmed their attendance this year.
With the theme “Enjoying a Human-Centered Digital Future and AI for Good – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace”, this year’s summit will focus on artificial intelligence and its impact on the economy and humanity.
This year's edition includes 24 sub-forums on topics such as cybersecurity, digital economy, data governance and global development initiatives.
The summit will also see the establishment of a special commission on AI – a partnership of a think tank and an international digital training academy.
In a video address to the opening ceremony of the event, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for “faster, more innovative and safer development of cyberspace to create a better digital future.”
"New technologies such as AI are developing rapidly. This has greatly enhanced our ability to understand and shape the world we live in, while also posing a series of unpredictable risks and challenges," the Chinese president said.
China will work with other countries in the information revolution and develop to tap the potential of the Internet, Xi Jinping said.
Meanwhile, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said the country's advanced technologies have yielded positive results.
“So far, China has put into operation the world's largest network infrastructure with advanced technology and 78% of the population has access to the Internet,” said Mr. Ding Tiet Tuong.
Mr. Dinh proposed four points to build a shared future in cyberspace, including improving global governance, enhancing technological cooperation, promoting fairness and common interests in the use of the Internet, and maintaining laws and regulations on cybersecurity protection.
