On the night of July 26, the Long An Province Martyrs' Cemetery - where the heroic martyrs rest - became warmer and more sparkling with fragrant incense sticks and candles lit with all the warm love. In the solemn atmosphere mixed with emotional choking, thousands of candles were lit as a deep gratitude of today's generation to those who died for peace and national independence.
Lighting candles in gratitude is one of the "Repaying gratitude" activities of Long An youth.
Candle of gratitude
In July, the cemetery in the province becomes warmer with the Candle Lighting Ceremony to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs. The provincial cemetery currently has nearly 4,000 graves. At 5:50 p.m., 500 delegates, union members, and youths gathered at the cemetery very early to prepare for the candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to and remember the heroic martyrs.
At 7 p.m., streams of people poured into the cemetery in a solemn and emotional atmosphere. Streams of people quietly lit a flame of gratitude on each martyr’s grave. Each person had their own thoughts and emotions when coming to this meaningful ceremony.
Ms. Tran Lan Huong - a member of the Youth Union of the Department of Information and Communications said: "Every year, when I attend the candle lighting ceremony, I am very moved and feel infinite gratitude to the heroic martyrs and wounded soldiers who did not spare their youth and blood for the independence of the Fatherland, so that today's young generation can live in peace and freedom. I always remember and am grateful for that sacrifice and will always strive to train and work better to join hands in building my homeland."

Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Lan (Huong Tho Phu commune, Tan An city) confided: “My great-grandmother, Vietnamese Heroic Mother Le Thi Hai, my grandfather Vo Van Minh and my uncle Nguyen Trung Tin are resting at the provincial Martyrs' Cemetery. Every year on July 27, my family and I often go to the cemetery to visit our relatives. I am really touched, each grave of the heroic martyrs in the cemetery grounds is lit with candles of gratitude. Thinking about the sacrifices of my ancestors, including my relatives, I am even more proud and try to continue the family tradition, strive to live well, study and work hard to contribute to building my homeland".
The war left behind extremely serious consequences. Every inch of land today is soaked with the blood and bones of previous generations. In addition to the provincial Martyrs' Memorial, local martyrs' memorials, temples, and monuments to heroes and martyrs also held candlelight ceremonies to pay tribute.
Secretary of Long An Provincial Youth Union - Tran Hai Phu said, the Candle Lighting Ceremony to honor the heroic martyrs has become a beautiful tradition, demonstrating the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude" of Long An youth. The flames of gratitude were lit from pride and deep gratitude towards the previous generation. This is also a practical activity of Long An youth to remember and show gratitude to the contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the cause of building and developing the country.
Promoting the role of youth
Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission - Nguyen Viet Cuong and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union - Tran Hai Phu burn incense at the martyrs' graves.
Mr. Tran Hai Phu shared that he is proud of the patriotic tradition of the young generation. Over the years, Long An youth have actively participated in implementing socio-economic tasks and taking care of and resolving policies for people with meritorious services and families with meritorious services.
Youth Unions at all levels in the province simultaneously implemented the model of Filial Children, visiting, giving gifts, examining and caring for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, families with meritorious services, wounded and sick soldiers; regularly organized the journey "Continuing the tradition of Long An's bravery and resilience" to the source, to "red addresses" inside and outside the province; effectively implemented the "Youth project to take care of projects honoring martyrs in the province", "Thousands of flowers offered to martyrs' graves project", restoring martyrs' portraits, etc.; organized cultural and artistic activities to praise the tradition of fighting to build and defend the country of generations of fathers and brothers, praising heroic martyrs.
Long An Youth implements the model of Filial Children, visits and gives gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers
Every year, thousands of young party members and outstanding union members of Long An enthusiastically join the army, day and night firmly holding their guns to protect every inch of the sacred land, sky, and sea of the Fatherland.
Along with that, Long An youth has implemented well the military rear policy for families with soldiers currently on duty to protect the Fatherland. Thereby contributing to educating the tradition of patriotism and national pride, encouraging young people in training, striving in work, study, production, and legitimately enriching themselves, their families, and their homeland./.
