Amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, acts of kindness quietly spread love to those less fortunate. The Binh Cu 1 volunteer group in Ward 4, Tan An City, Long An Province, led by Mr. Lam Ba Phong, is one such shining example with its meaningful "Breakfast of Compassion" model.
The group was established in 2022 with the participation of many members of different ages and professions, including youth union members, young people, teachers, retired officials, etc. Each person contributes in their own way, from their time and effort to their finances. Most importantly, the majority of the group's operating funds come from the members' own pockets, as well as contributions from their families and friends.
Members of the Binh Cu 1 Volunteer Group, Ward 4, Tan An City, wholeheartedly help those in difficult circumstances.
Initially, the group prepared various dishes to serve people in need, but after a while, they decided to focus on clean, convenient loaves of bread suitable for laborers and lottery ticket vendors who need to make a living. Regularly, every Sunday morning, about 200 loaves of bread are delivered to those in need, helping them gain energy to start their day.
Huynh Hoai Vu, Secretary of the Youth Union in Binh Cu 1 neighborhood, Ward 4, and a member of the volunteer group, shared: "Participating in the volunteer group, I feel very happy to be able to contribute my efforts to help those in difficult circumstances. This is a way to connect charitable hearts and spread compassion in the community."
Similarly, Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Nguyet (a retired official and member of the volunteer group) emotionally said: “The members of the group are always united and work together to help those in difficult circumstances. Despite limited funds, we still try our best within our capabilities. The most valuable thing is seeing the joy in the eyes of those receiving gifts; it warms our hearts, fills us with happiness, and gives us even more motivation to continue this meaningful activity.”
In addition to providing breakfast meals, the group also organizes the "Rice of Compassion" program on major full moon days throughout the year and during the Lunar New Year. During this program, the group provides gifts such as rice and essential goods to the people. This support helps many disadvantaged families alleviate some of their worries in life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai (originally from Ben Tre province, selling lottery tickets in Tan An City) emotionally said: "In my twilight years, I have to leave my hometown to make a living, so it's very difficult. These loaves of bread, portions of rice, and other necessities help ease some of the burden of making ends meet. These gifts, though small, bring great comfort to me and many others in similar circumstances."
The members of the Binh Cu 1 Volunteer Group, Ward 4, Tan An City, include many people of different ages and professions, but all share a common compassionate heart and a desire to contribute to the community.
Currently, the Binh Cu 1 Volunteer Group continues its journey of spreading love, but to maintain and expand its activities, it greatly needs the support of the community.
Group leader Lam Ba Phong stated: "Initially, the group offered a variety of dishes, but later focused primarily on making bread for lottery ticket vendors, freelance workers, and those in difficult circumstances because bread is easy to make, easy to eat, and convenient. Currently, the group's operating funds mainly come from member contributions and support from acquaintances, friends, and family members. Although we still face many difficulties, we will try our best to help more people."
The small but meaningful actions of the Binh Cu 1 Volunteer Group are contributing to a better society. Hopefully, with the joint efforts of many people, the "Breakfast of Compassion" program will continue to spread and help more people in difficult circumstances. More than just a free breakfast, this is an act of sharing, a warmth of human kindness, and encouragement for those facing hardship in life.
