Trinh's music - a place to return to

In a turbulent modern world, where young people live in the hustle and bustle, Trinh Cong Son's music is like "a place to return to", a door leading young people back inside - where the soul is calm and peaceful.

Young people today grow up in an era where everything is fast: news updates by the second, social networks are full of vivid images. But in that noise, they feel... lost.

Trinh's music with its slow melody, poetic lyrics and light-hearted way of talking about heavy things has become a spiritual refuge. Love in Trinh's music is not noisy possession, but a tolerant companionship. Sadness in Trinh's music is not despair, but an indispensable part of life.

Those existential philosophies - when they touch young people - do not make them pessimistic, but on the contrary, make them know that: it is okay if you feel empty today, because that is also a part of life. Is that why young people in Thai Nguyen love and feel Trinh's music so much?

The late musician Trinh Cong Son once wrote: “I write music not to be famous. I write to preserve the most perishable things in humans: emotions. And perhaps, that is what makes Trinh’s music live forever in the hearts of young people today. You don’t need to be “mature” to understand, you don’t need to be “experienced” to understand. As long as the heart still knows how to vibrate, still knows how to ask questions about existence, then Trinh’s music - and young people - will forever be silent companions.

Thai Nguyen, an early autumn afternoon. The coffee shop named Laika, Phan Dinh Phung ward, once again echoed the familiar melody of the love songs Cat bui, Hoa vang may do, O tro ... Not noisy, not bustling, each song of Trinh Cong Son seemed to pour into the hearts of the young people here a deep, indescribable feeling.

Hong Nhung - a student at the Military Culture and Arts School, possesses a clear, expressive mezzo-soprano voice. Hong Nhung has been interested in Trinh's music since high school, she accidentally heard Diem Xua through a radio program. Her first feeling at that time was not liking but... obsession. Trinh's music does not attract the ears like commercial music. But it stays with me for a long time. After listening, I just feel nostalgic without understanding why. That's when I knew, I had to try singing to feel, to understand Trinh's music.

Since then, Nhung gradually entered the world of Trinh's music: from popular songs like Bien nho, Tuoi da buon to little-known songs like Em hay ngu di . She did not choose to sing like the previous divas, but chose a simple, narrative singing style, putting emotions before technique.

As for Dinh Tu, who came from an acoustic band of students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Thai Nguyen University), coming to Trinh's music was a coincidence. After performing Cat Bui at a charity event, Dinh Tu was encouraged by the audience. Dinh Tu shared: I don't dare to say that I have anything special. It's just that when I sing Trinh's music, I feel like I can truly live with the most fragile things in my heart.

In recent years, in the center of Thai Nguyen province, Trinh-style coffee shops have gradually sprung up, not only as a place to enjoy music but also as a meeting place for young people with the same passion. Trinh Quan on Bac Son Street, Phan Dinh Phung Ward is an example. Every Saturday night, the "Trinh & Friends Music Night" is held here. There is no big stage, no bright lights, just a guitar, a few microphones and souls who love Trinh.

Not only the people standing on stage bring Trinh's music closer to the public, but also the young people who are quietly listening to Trinh, they are also keeping the silence inside themselves in a beautiful way. In the midst of an increasingly chaotic life, Trinh's music makes me accept sadness as a very beautiful part of life.

Although it has been more than two decades since Trinh Cong Son passed away, his music has never been out of date and there are still young people who devote their hearts to Trinh's poetic lyrics. They not only listen but also share their feelings on social networks, even creating art spaces inspired by Trinh.
