This is the highest number of Covid-19 cases per day in nearly 6 months in this South Asian country. Previously, India reported 3,375 Covid-19 cases on October 2, 2022.
The Indian Ministry of Health said the daily positive test rate for SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country is 2.7%, and the weekly positive rate is 1.71%.
Besides, with 14 deaths due to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the total number of deaths due to this dangerous epidemic in India has increased to 530,862 cases.
Amid a surge in new Covid-19 cases, several states in India are planning to hold emergency meetings.
The capital Delhi, where new cases dropped to zero on January 16 but rose to 300 in the past 24 hours, convened a meeting on March 30 to review the situation.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health , directors of state-run hospitals and other stakeholders.
According to experts, the main cause of the sudden increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases in India is the sub-lineage of the Omicron variant - XBB.1.16, which has the ability to evade immunity.
