Vung Tau Hospital, Vung Tau city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province informed that the unit's doctors successfully performed surgery to remove a uterine fibroid weighing up to nearly 5kg.

This is the largest uterine fibroid ever discovered at Vung Tau Hospital.

The patient is Ms. PTN (56 years old, living in Ward 3, Vung Tau City). Ms. N said that she had had uterine fibroids for many years but due to circumstances, she could not seek treatment immediately. It was not until she had symptoms of frequent urination, abdominal pain, etc. that the patient went to Vung Tau Hospital for examination.

Through clinical examination and paraclinical results, doctors determined that the tumor was large, occupying almost the entire abdomen, and the patient was indicated for surgery.

This is considered a complicated surgical case because the tumor is too large, can cause a lot of blood loss and affect nearby organs.

The surgical team, including obstetricians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, etc., quickly consulted and prepared thoroughly, carefully exploring the tumor and separating the adhesions to avoid damaging the bladder, intestines, and ureters.

After 180 minutes of tension, the tumor weighing nearly 5kg was removed from the patient's body. After surgery, the patient's vital signs were stable and he is currently being monitored at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Doctor Hoang Phuoc Ba, Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Vung Tau Hospital, said this is the case of the largest uterine fibroid ever operated on at Vung Tau Hospital.

If not removed promptly, large fibroids will compress the ureter, rectum, and bladder, causing dangerous complications for the patient.

Doctors recommend that women should have regular gynecological check-ups, especially when there are unusual signs... to be detected and treated promptly./.
