Ho Chi Minh City celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities: Spreading the message 'no one is left behind'

On December 3, the Rehabilitation Nursing Center - Child Support and Support for the Disabled ( Ministry of Health ) coordinated with the Party Committee and People's Committee of Xuan Hoa Ward (HCMC) to organize a ceremony to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3).

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Deputy Director of the Department of Social Protection - In charge of the center shared: "In 2025, the United Nations took the theme 'Promoting social inclusion of people with disabilities for the progress of the whole community' to further affirm its commitment to ensuring conditions for a barrier-free society, a future where no one is left behind".

Representatives of the Ministry of Health visited the children at the Rehabilitation Nursing Center - Child Support and Support for the Disabled.

Vietnam currently has 1.6 million people with disabilities receiving social benefits, 96% of whom have health insurance cards. Disabled children are guaranteed the conditions to go to school, participate in rehabilitation programs, receive early intervention, receive vocational training, job creation, livelihood support, and are exempted or have reduced fares when using public transport or cultural facilities.

In Ho Chi Minh City, over 95.7% of people with disabilities have health insurance, 43.4% of people with disabilities receive monthly allowances, 80% of children with disabilities at preschool and primary school age have access to education , infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, health stations, cultural facilities... have been designed to suit people with disabilities. Currently, the city is implementing many programs to provide medical assistance, educational assistance, financial assistance, provide free legal services and support independent living...

"These efforts aim to improve the quality of life and facilitate the integration of people with disabilities into the community," said the Deputy Director of the Department of Social Protection.

Over 47 years of operation, the Nursing, Rehabilitation - Child Support and Disability Support Center has provided rehabilitation treatment to 910,000 disabled children; cared for more than 14,000 orphans, rehabilitated malnourished children for more than 11,000 children; treated and assisted more than 193,000 disabled children in the community. In 2025 alone, the center will maintain regular care for over 200 disabled children.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Luong Thi Hong Gam - Vice Chairman of Xuan Hoa Ward (HCMC) shared: "This is not only a commemorative day, but also a reminder of respect and equality, an occasion to honor the will to live of people with disabilities. At the same time, it spreads the message of sharing and building an inclusive environment where children and people with disabilities are given the opportunity to maximize their abilities.

By 2025, the Rehabilitation Nursing Center - Child Support and Support for the Disabled will maintain regular care for over 200 disabled children.

According to Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Vietnam is a country with a high number and rate of people with disabilities. The quality of life and integration conditions of people with disabilities are still limited. Therefore, it is necessary to continue promoting the implementation of policies and guidelines for people with disabilities. At the same time, continue to improve care and support services for people with disabilities, especially services at the center.

Accordingly, it is necessary to continue to promote and raise social awareness to change prejudices, remove barriers to access for people with disabilities, build a humane living environment, without discrimination against people with disabilities; fully implement the rights of people with disabilities, especially the rights to be protected, to be cared for, to access education, rehabilitation, health care, to vocational training and to have jobs.

In addition, create conditions for people with disabilities to proactively participate in the process of building, implementing and monitoring policies and programs directly related to their lives; family and society are the most solid support, the community is the environment for people with disabilities to integrate and develop.
