On January 8, the Indian Ministry of Defense and French defense shipbuilder Naval Group signed an agreement to supply new F21 electronic heavyweight torpedoes for the Indian Navy's Kalvari-class diesel-electric submarines.
The contract, worth approximately $102.4 million, will integrate Naval Group’s F21 Electronically-Driven Heavy Torpedo (EHWT) into the Kalvari-class vessel. The first test of the F21 EHWT will take place on December 14, 2024, when a French Navy nuclear submarine will launch a torpedo at a decommissioned corvette.
The integration of the F21 torpedo into the Kalvari-class vessels will be done through a collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Meanwhile, from December 31 to January 13, India and Nepal conducted the 18th joint military exercise named Surya Kiran (Sunshine) in the Saljhandi region of Nepal.
