An Giang: Suspect arrested for attempting to kill creditor with gasoline.

On September 25th, the An Giang Provincial Police Investigation Agency announced that it had served the decisions to initiate criminal proceedings, indict the suspect, and temporarily detain Bui Huu Vu (born in 1980, residing in Thanh Quoi commune, Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city) for the crime of "murder".

According to initial investigation results, on March 23, 2022, Vu borrowed the land use right certificate from Mr. Ho Van Duc (born in 1962, Vu's wife's uncle) to mortgage it and borrow 500 million VND from Ms. Nguyen Thi The (born in 1966, residing in Vinh Khanh commune, Thoai Son district, An Giang province).

After repaying the debt, on July 20, 2024, Vu still owed Ms. The 100 million VND in principal and 200 million VND in interest. At this time, Mr. Duc went to Vu's house to demand the return of the land use right certificate.

Vu repeatedly visited Mrs. The, promising to pay off the remaining debt completely and asking her to give him the land use right certificate in advance to pay Mr. Duc, but Mrs. The refused.

Angered, Vu then drove his motorbike, carrying a can of gasoline and a gas lighter, to Mrs. The's house. Upon arrival, Vu poured the gasoline over himself, then chased after Mrs. The and splashed the gasoline on her. He tried to light the gasoline with the lighter, but luckily it didn't ignite. People nearby rushed in and snatched the can of gasoline from Vu's hands. Afterwards, Vu went to the Vinh Khanh Commune Police Station to surrender and confessed to his crime.
