According to data from the Department of Construction, since the beginning of the rainy season, the area has recorded 90 landslides on national highways with a total volume of soil and rock of more than 9,000m³; 52 landslides on the provincial road system. Notably, many sections of DT.242, DT.243, DT.244 are often flooded from 0.4 - 1m deep during heavy rains, causing traffic jams and posing a risk of accidents.
Faced with the above situation, the provincial authorities have synchronously deployed many measures to ensure traffic safety. In particular, the traffic police force has increased its presence at "black spots" where flooding and landslides often occur to provide early and continuous warnings via the Zalo application "ATGT cho binh Xu Lang" to help traffic participants promptly update the situation.
Lieutenant Colonel Duong Hoang Anh, Deputy Head of the Staff Team, Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, said: Since the beginning of June, we have posted more than 70 flood warnings and detailed traffic updates. The information is continuously transmitted to help people proactively choose safe routes. In addition, the force has also set up mobile warning posts and organized on-duty teams at risk locations to promptly handle any situations that may arise.
In addition to warnings, disaster recovery efforts were also quickly implemented. The Department of Construction directed road management units to mobilize human resources and machinery to handle emergency situations at landslide sites. At the same time, units cleared rocks and soil, constructed stone embankments, restored drainage systems, restored roadbeds, and placed warning signs at dangerous locations.
Mr. Hoang Viet Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, said: Since the beginning of the rainy season, units have deployed more than 50 vehicles and machines to handle 80 landslides caused by heavy rain, with a total volume of about 10,000 cubic meters. Up to now, 100% of the roads have been guaranteed to be safe and smooth.
In parallel, Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company has also actively pruned trees to prevent the risk of falling during storms. Since the beginning of June, the unit has pruned 5 times of fallen trees on 10 roads in Ky Lua, Luong Van Tri and Dong Kinh wards to ensure safety for people and vehicles when participating in traffic.
With the synchronous and timely implementation of solutions to prevent and combat natural disasters and ensure traffic safety, since the beginning of the rainy season, the province has not recorded any traffic accidents due to weather effects. There has been no traffic congestion.
In stormy weather conditions, experts and authorities advise people to be cautious when driving. Reducing speed and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles is essential. When visibility is limited, drivers should turn on headlights and fog lights. Absolutely avoid sudden actions such as sudden braking or strong steering because it is easy to lose control due to slippery road surfaces.
It can be seen that ensuring traffic safety during the rainy season is not the responsibility of any individual. While the authorities are trying to repair infrastructure and ensure timely warning information, each citizen needs to proactively update information, improve their situation handling skills, and ensure safety when participating in traffic.
