Death penalty for defendant who murdered ex-wife at convenience store

(Baoquangngai.vn)- On July 25, the People's Court of the province sentenced defendant Vo Phi Hau (30 years old) to death for the crime of "Murder" under Article 123 of the Penal Code.

According to the indictment, defendant Vo Phi Hau, residing in Phu Cat district (Binh Dinh), and Ms. TTHS (29 years old), residing in Nghia Ky commune (Tu Nghia) are husband and wife, got married and lived together since October 2014, and divorced on March 17, 2023.

Due to conflicts over money, after the divorce, Hau called and texted his ex-wife many times to ask to meet to resolve the matter, but Ms. S did not respond and did not want to meet Hau. At about 1:00 p.m. on April 4, 2023, Vo Phi Hau brought a knife and walked to the convenience store on Nguyen Thuy Street ( Quang Ngai City), where Ms. S worked. Hau called Ms. S out to talk many times, but Ms. S refused. After that, Hau went to meet Ms. S at the cashier counter in the store. At this time, the two continued to have conflicts.

Defendant Vo Phi Hau was sentenced to death by the Provincial People's Court for the crime of "Murder".

Hau angrily took a knife from his pocket and stabbed Ms. S many times. Another female employee of the convenience store intervened and pulled Hau away. However, Hau still stabbed his ex-wife in the head, neck and many other places on her body, causing Ms. S to bleed profusely, leading to her death on the spot. After committing the crime, Hau took the knife out of the store and hid, but was captured by the police in coordination with the people.

At the first instance trial, after reviewing the entire content of the case, the Trial Panel decided to sentence defendant Vo Phi Hau to death for the crime of "Murder" as prescribed in Article 123 of the Penal Code.

Previously, in April 2014, Vo Phi Hau was sentenced to 6 months in prison by the People's Court of Phu Cat district (Binh Dinh) but given a suspended sentence for the crime of "Theft of property".
