On the night of June 26, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy an excerpt from “The Nutcracker” - the last ballet masterpiece of the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The ballet is based on the fairy tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann - a work filled with the magical colors of childhood, where the imagination follows a child from the room and the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve to the kingdom of miracles. The unique feature of the program “The Cuba Ballet” is the excerpt “Snow Scene” choreographed by the legendary Alicia Alonso (based on the original by Lev Ivanov) and performed by two artists Gabriela Druyet and Bertho Rivero.
Along with the performance of the excerpt “Snowfall” from the masterpiece “The Nutcracker”, the artists of the National Ballet of Cuba also performed classic ballet excerpts such as “Swan Lake”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “The Dying Swan”. During the performance, the audience had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the majestic beauty of classic ballet. With exquisite body language and top ballet techniques, on this occasion, the leading dancers of Cuban ballet also introduced to the audience many works bearing the mark of Cuban culture…

Ballet is not only an important part of Cuba's cultural heritage but also an important contributor to the development of ballet worldwide. The combination of technique, expression and cultural identity has given Cuban ballet its own unique nuances. Going back in time, Ballet was introduced to Cuba in the late 18th century, when European troupes performed at the Theaters in Havana. However, it was not until 1948 that Ballet truly developed strongly with the birth of the National Ballet of Cuba (Ballet Nacional de Cuba).
Founded by three legendary ballerinas Alicia Alonso, Fernando Alonso and Alberto Alonso, the National Ballet of Cuba has become the leading artistic symbol representing the best of the Cuban ballet school. Based on the European dance tradition, the National Ballet of Cuba has developed a unique style, blending the national spirit and Cuban cultural identity. In 2018, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cuba recognized the National Ballet of Cuba as a National Cultural Heritage, in honor of the great contributions of the troupe to the preservation and development of the art of dance.
