Chieng Son is a border commune with 3,233 households and 7 ethnic groups living together in 24 villages and sub-regions. Previously, most of the commune's intra-village and inter-village roads did not have lighting, making it difficult to travel at night, and bad guys took advantage of it to commit illegal acts. Along with that, there were almost no community cultural and sports activities at night. In 2022, Chieng Son commune implemented the policy of investing in a lighting system for alleys and roads with the motto: For the system using national grid electricity, people invest in poles, light bulbs and maintain, repair, and the State supports monthly electricity payments. As for the system using solar power, the State supports initial investment in construction including poles and light bulbs.
Comrade Phan Thanh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Council, said: The commune has organized a review, held meetings, and collected people's opinions on investing in the rural lighting system and has received consensus and positive responses. Because people are not only beneficiaries but also direct participants, contributors and maintainers of the power line project. Up to now, from mobilized resources and people's contributions, the commune has installed more than 44 km of lighting, with a total cost of over 1.6 billion VND.
Present at the Suoi Thin border village, in the evening, all roads are illuminated, helping people to travel conveniently, and the village's community activities also become more vibrant. Mr. Song A Chinh, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Suoi Thin village, said: With the contribution of the villagers and the support of volunteer units, the whole village has built 1.7 km of lighting lines. With lighting, the village regularly organizes cultural and artistic exchange activities in the evening, contributing to building a healthy spiritual life as well as connecting the community and raising awareness of maintaining security and order.
Bright roads also change the face of the countryside and are a lever to boost the household economy . Mr. Giang A Pao, Pha Luong village, Chieng Son commune, shared: My family runs a grocery store, which used to only sell during the day. Since the lighting system was installed, business has become much more convenient, and more people go shopping at night. Now, to serve the needs of the people, my store is open until 8-9 pm, and my family's income has also improved.
With the synchronous participation of the government and the active response of the people, the implementation of the investment in the lighting system for the alleys in Chieng Son commune has brought joy and excitement, bringing a new life to the people in the border area, contributing significantly to ensuring security and order, promoting the local economy and society to develop more and more.
