Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone continues to be a high-class destination, playing a role as a growth pole, leading the market and improving the quality of tourism services in the province. In the first five months of 2026, Phu Quoc welcomed more than 4.7 million tourists, an increase of 34.2% compared to the same period in 2025; including more than 1.17 million international tourists. Total revenue from tourism reached nearly 27,000 billion VND, an increase of 50.4% compared to the same period.

According to the Director of the Department of Tourism, Bui Quoc Thai, An Giang's tourism sector has not only achieved many outstanding results but is also entering a phase of deep international integration, especially in the context of preparing for the APEC 2027 event to be held in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. “In recent times, An Giang has focused on effectively exploiting spiritual, cultural, ecological, marine, agricultural , and community-based tourism products… while simultaneously aiming for experiential, green, sustainable tourism products with high competitiveness. Alongside this, the industry has strongly exploited key international tourism markets such as South Korea, China, India, Taiwan (China), Cambodia, and Russian-speaking countries… as well as domestic markets such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and the northern provinces. Thanks to this, all indicators of the industry have shown good growth, contributing positively to the overall development of the province,” Mr. Thai stated.

According to Mr. Thai, in its development strategy, the province aims to build tourism into a branded, highly competitive industry linked to digital transformation and green, sustainable growth. Specifically, the target for 2026 is to welcome approximately 25 million tourists, including over 2.1 million international visitors… By 2030, the province aims to welcome 39.5 million tourists, including over 3 million international visitors, with total tourism revenue exceeding 108,000 billion VND.

To achieve new growth targets, the province's tourism industry is stepping up tourism promotion efforts, especially on digital platforms; welcoming famtrip delegations for tourism development surveys and cooperation; proposing the signing of tourism development cooperation agreements with countries with developed tourism industries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia; and continuing to improve the investment environment to attract strategic, large-scale investors.

Currently, An Giang is developing a comprehensive infrastructure network with the Southwest region's expressways gradually being completed, shortening travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta. In addition, Phu Quoc International Airport is being upgraded to accommodate a larger number of international tourists ahead of APEC 2027… helping An Giang's tourism industry "take off" thanks to integrated tour packages focusing on "sea, islands, spirituality, and ecology". "In the immediate future, the industry is proactively preparing thoroughly for the assigned tasks for APEC 2027; conducting a comprehensive review and assessment of accommodation and tourism service businesses in Phu Quoc, ensuring they meet the standards for serving international events," said Mr. Bui Quoc Thai.

According to the Chairman of the Provincial Tourism Association, Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, in order to contribute to promoting the development of tourism in An Giang and to support the locality in successfully serving APEC 2027, the Association will focus on connecting members to standardize high-quality tourism products such as MICE, golf, health care, and cuisine; building synchronized standards for services, infrastructure, and high-end experiences. Simultaneously, it will improve management capacity and foreign language skills for tourism human resources; develop green tourism, linked with the preservation of cultural values. At the same time, it will promote digital transformation, strengthen communication and international promotion, contributing to enhancing the image of Phu Quoc tourism on the world tourism map…

According to the Department of Tourism, in the first five months of 2026, the province welcomed over 13 million tourists for sightseeing and relaxation, an increase of 12.1% compared to the same period in 2025; including nearly 1.2 million international tourists, an increase of 48.4% compared to the same period. Total revenue from tourism reached over 33,000 billion VND, an increase of 37.2% compared to the same period.
