Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are escalating.

Iran's Mehr news agency reported on June 3rd that several loud explosions were recorded on Qeshm Island, a strategic location in the heart of the Strait of Hormuz. The cause of the explosions remains undetermined, but the event immediately drew international attention given the region's potential for further conflict.

Meanwhile, the US military asserted that it had successfully intercepted a series of Iranian missile launches and drone attacks in the Gulf and conducted a series of defensive airstrikes on Qeshm Island. On Tehran's side, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that it had carried out missile and drone attacks targeting the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.

At the same time, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US forces had neutralized the Botswana-flagged oil tanker M/T Lexie after it deliberately moved toward Iran's Kharg Island. This is the sixth vessel neutralized by the US since Washington launched its blockade of Iranian ports last April.

On the economic front, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions on June 2nd targeting Nobitex – Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange – accusing it of playing a key role in a financial network serving Tehran.
