The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will not have seamless volume buttons as rumored in the past few weeks. Instead, the two devices will still use the familiar two-button design, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro. However, the silent button will be changed, no longer having to be pushed down but just pressed. Apple internally calls this the “action button” or “ringer button”. Rumors suggest it could be customizable similar to the action button on the Apple Watch Ultra.
Until earlier this week, Apple was working on a solid-state button that would provide tactile feedback instead of physical buttons. However, the company abandoned the design earlier this week, citing “unresolved technical issues,” according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
At the time, Kuo said the iPhone maker would return to “traditional physical button design,” but it was unclear whether it would continue with a seamless design or two buttons. Unknownz21 ’s sources revealed that the company would stick with two buttons, saving the new design for the iPhone 16 Pro.
According to MacRumors , Apple’s last-minute design changes aren’t unexpected. They happen when there’s a problem that the company can’t fix before release. For example, AirPower was scrapped entirely after it failed to work as expected. In 2011, the iPhone 5 was rumored to feature a teardrop design that thinned down from the top, but the final product had a different look. With the third-generation iPod touch, a camera was added to the initial design but didn’t make it to the final version.
In addition to the new silent button, the iPhone 15 Pro is rumored to have a number of features such as a titanium frame, faster A17 chip, periscope lens technology, thinner screen bezels, USB-C port.
