According to MacRumors , based on leaked information from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is quietly developing new generation Apple Watch models, expected to launch in 2027, with a breakthrough in camera integration.

According to Mr. Gurman, Apple plans to equip the camera in the screen area of the Apple Watch Series, and on the side (near the Digital Crown button) on the Apple Watch Ultra. However, this feature is not intended to support FaceTime video calls as many people expect. Instead, Apple wants to use the camera to develop the Visual Intelligence feature for the Apple Watch.

Visual Intelligence will allow Apple Watch users to quickly recognize and gather information about their surroundings just by pointing the watch at an object or location. For example, users can get the opening hours and reviews of a restaurant just by pointing the Apple Watch at it.

This feature was introduced on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro models (with the iOS 18.4 update). Bringing Visual Intelligence to the Apple Watch shows Apple's ambition to turn the smartwatch into a smarter assistant, going beyond the usual health tracking and notification functions.
