Arsenal started the Premier League season impressively with a narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. This was the Gunners' fourth consecutive win on the opening day of the season, and their third triumph at the Theatre of Dreams in 18 away matches.
Arsenal inflicted a painful defeat on Man Utd at Old Trafford.
(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Calafiori's only goal in the 13th minute secured a 1-0 victory for Arsenal against Man Utd at Old Trafford on the night of August 17th.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford was filled with hope as Man Utd were determined to bounce back after what was arguably their worst season in the Premier League era. Meanwhile, Arsenal aimed to continue their title race. Cheered on by the Stretford End crowd, the home side started with enthusiasm, launching several promising attacks, though none truly threatened David Raya's goal.
However, it was Arsenal who opened the scoring. Goalkeeper Altay Bayındır made a serious error in his first save of the season, handling the ball from Declan Rice's corner but failing to push it away. The ball bounced to the far post, and Riccardo Calafiori headed it in from close range, giving the Gunners the lead.
The early goal gave Mikel Arteta's side more freedom to adopt a defensive counter-attacking strategy. Although subsequent chances were few, once the home team regained their rhythm, they showed their danger. New signing Bryan Mbeumo had a shot that went wide of the post, before Patrick Dorgu's low shot hit the post and bounced out. Matheus Cunha forced Raya to make two excellent saves, helping the visitors maintain their slender lead before halftime.
A similar scenario unfolded after the break, with Man Utd continuing to show promise but failing to create clear chances. Cunha and Mbeumo remained the main attacking threats, with Mbeumo's bicycle kick going wide of the goal after a stunning burst of speed from Cunha. Mbeumo came closer to scoring with a dangerous header from Dorgu's cross in the 74th minute, but Raya made a spectacular diving save, denying the Cameroonian striker his first goal.
Manchester United's pressure gradually dissipated in the final 10 minutes as Arsenal regained control of the game. The Gunners' solid defense inflicted a bitter defeat on the home side. With this strong start at Old Trafford, Arsenal extended their unbeaten away run in the league to 15 matches. For Ruben Amorim's side, this performance was quite positive compared to much of last season, although they failed to score in their fourth of five home Premier League games.
