Marco Asensio, Carlos Soler and Milan Skriniar were sent to train with the “Espoirs”, a group of players no longer in coach Luis Enrique’s plans. Although the first team is off until August 5, the faces “removed from the blacklist” are asked to return early to maintain their fitness and find a new destination.
Among them, Asensio is the one most expected to leave PSG early in the summer transfer window. Joining PSG in the summer of 2023 as a free agent after leaving Real Madrid, Asensio was expected to bring a breakthrough in the attack. But after a few impressive first months, the Spanish striker quickly lost his position.
When PSG recruited Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for 70 million euros in January 2025, Asensio was also kicked out of Paris. The former Real Madrid star's role became increasingly obscure, as a result, he was bluntly removed from Luis Enrique's plans.
Sent out on loan to Aston Villa in the January transfer window, Asensio played well but was not enough to convince the English team to buy him outright. In that context, Fenerbahce emerged as a potential destination as they are actively negotiating with his agent.
The Turkish side are also close to completing the signing of Skriniar - in the same situation as Asensio - and want another experienced attacking star.
Asensio does not know where to go this summer. |
Carlos Soler is in a similar situation. The Spanish midfielder was used quite flexibly by Enrique in his first season - even playing at right-back - but was never a truly reliable option.
He was sent to West Ham on loan last season and played impressively for the Hammers, but the English club did not activate the buyout clause.
Coach Luis Enrique has made it clear that only players who are part of the squad for the French Super Cup on August 13 will be allowed to train with the first team. This means that if they do not find a new home before August 5, both Asensio and Soler will continue to be "exiled" to the youth team - a situation that is no different from being eliminated from the top-flight football cycle.
PSG are in a period of intense rebuilding after winning the Champions League, and there is no room for players who are no longer useful. For Asensio and Soler, the story in Paris has come to an end - only waiting for the official farewell bell to ring.
