Marco Asensio has convinced the Aston Villa management. |
Aston Villa's loan agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Asensio will expire after the club's final two Premier League matches this season, against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
Therefore, the Villa Park club contacted PSG to buy the player outright. The transfer fee is reportedly around 15 million euros, equivalent to 12.5 million pounds.
Asensio will sign a three-year contract with Aston Villa. PSG allowed Asensio to leave for a low price, as his contract in the French capital had only one year left to expire. Asensio also wanted to continue his long-term commitment to Villa and work under Emery's leadership.
The Spanish player had an impressive start to the year with Villa. He scored a brace in the comeback victory against Chelsea at Villa Park in February, and just days later, scored in the demolition of Championship side Cardiff City in the FA Cup.
Asensio also contributed three goals in the two legs of the Champions League round of 16 against Club Brugge. With 8 goals in 19 games for Villa, Asensio has convinced coach Unai Emery and the club's management.
However, aside from Asensio's case, Aston Villa will be cautious in the summer transfer market, as the club is facing financial difficulties. If they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, the club is unlikely to be able to permanently sign players on loan this season such as Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi.
