Three proposals of Vietnam to promote the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action

Vietnam wishes to further strengthen cooperation to enhance the role of women in economic life, especially strengthening connections between women in science, innovation, and female businesses, creating opportunities for women to become pioneers in new fields.

This is the content presented by Comrade Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam Women's Union at the Global Summit on Women held for 2 days (October 13-14, 2025), organized by the Chinese Government in coordination with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the United Nations World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995.

Authorized by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, on October 13, the Vietnamese delegation led by Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, attended the Global Summit on Women with the theme "A Shared Future: New and Accelerated Progress for the Comprehensive Development of Women" in Beijing (China).

Since the Fourth World Conference on Women of the United Nations in 1995, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at the Conference have created a legal framework to protect women's rights; awareness of gender equality has been more integrated into public policies; institutional mechanisms to promote gender equality have been strengthened. With the desire to strengthen the trust and motivation for women's development, and at the same time reaffirm the commitment and promote action to implement the Beijing Declaration, Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, this Global Summit on Women in Beijing is held with the aim of building a community that shares the future of humanity.

At the Plenary Session of the Conference, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen, on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, shared the efforts and achievements that Vietnam has made in promoting gender equality and empowering women.

President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized that over the years, Vietnam has always made efforts to implement the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action as well as international conventions on human rights, especially in promoting gender equality and empowering women with many outstanding results.

The 2-day Global Summit on Women (October 13-14, 2025) is organized by the Chinese Government in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

Notably, the proportion of women in Vietnam's scientific research force reached 44%; women participating in the STEM field reached nearly 40%; women business owners reached more than 28%. In particular, the proportion of female deputies to the 15th National Assembly reached 30.26%, the highest level since the 6th term up to now, in which many female officials hold key leadership and management positions in the government apparatus at all levels.

In addition, Vietnam has always actively contributed to global and regional efforts on gender equality. The proportion of female officers and soldiers in Vietnam’s peacekeeping missions is 14.4%, higher than the average of the United Nations. Vietnam has also participated in and promoted many initiatives at the United Nations and ASEAN on promoting gender equality and the advancement of women.

Entering a new stage of development, Vietnam is building and implementing many policies to create the best conditions for women to participate in economic, political and social life. Strategies and policies on science, technology, education, health and economic development all give high priority to women.

To continue effectively implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen proposed that countries need to make efforts to maintain peace and stability because this is a prerequisite for the development and advancement of women. In addition, countries need to increase exchanges and dialogues, promote gender equality in line with common goals, respond to rapid changes in the new situation, so that women can contribute more and more actively to ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development of each country. Vietnam wishes to further strengthen cooperation to enhance the role of women in economic life, especially strengthening connections between women in science, innovation, and female businesses, creating opportunities for women to become pioneers in new fields.

"Vietnam believes that, with solidarity and determination, the international community will continue to realize the vision of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the future, towards a world of peace and sustainable development, where all women and girls are respected, protected and empowered to develop comprehensively as in the spirit of today's Global Summit on Women, which is A Shared Future: New and Accelerated Progress for the Global Development of Women," Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized.
