Weather on October 14: Widespread thunderstorms in many areas

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, many areas across the country early this morning saw scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. The rainfall from 7 p.m. on October 13 to 3 a.m. on October 14 was over 60mm in some places, recorded at the following stations: Cho Trang (Nghe An), Son An (Ha Tinh), Gia Vong (Quang Tri), Mo Rai (Quang Ngai), Cai Sao (An Giang) and Tam Thon Hiep (Ho Chi Minh City).

It is forecasted that from early morning of October 14 to the end of October 15, the Northern Delta region and Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh provinces will have moderate rain, with rainfall ranging from 30-70mm, with some places over 130mm. The midlands and mountainous areas of the Northeast will have showers, with rainfall ranging from 20-40mm, with some places over 80mm.

Hanoi area from the morning of October 14 to the end of October 15 will have moderate rain and thunderstorms, rainfall of 30-60mm, in some places over 90mm.

During the day and night of October 14, the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai , the Central Highlands and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 10-30mm, locally over 70mm, concentrated in the afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms in these areas are likely to last for many days to come.

During thunderstorms, watch out for tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain may cause flash floods in rivers and small streams, landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying areas.

At sea, on the morning of October 14, the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Quang Ngai and the Northwest of the East Sea (including the Hoang Sa sea area) will have scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Forecast for the day and night of October 14, the sea areas from South Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, between the East Sea and the Northwest of the East Sea will continue to have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the possibility of tornadoes, gusts of wind level 6-7, and waves over 2m high.
