Ba Ria - Vung Tau: Focus on investing in infrastructure, improving the lives of ethnic minorities

Leaders of the People's Council of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and Dat Do district surveyed the clean water needs of ethnic minorities in Go Sam hamlet, Lang Dai commune, Dat Do district.

Roads and clean water to every corner

Song Xoai Commune, Phu My Town has 580 households and 2,800 people who are ethnic minorities. Implementing Resolution 108 of the Provincial People's Council on implementing the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 - 2030 (National Target Program 1719), the locality has invested in 9 domestic water works and 2 rural roads, with a total cost of over 28.1 billion VND.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Quy, a Chinese ethnic, residing in Song Xoai commune, said that before, his family used well water, which was unstable and of uncertain quality. Since we have tap water in our house, we feel very secure, and we also receive price support, so the cost is very low.

In Chau Duc district, there are 2,200 households with 9,200 people of 15 ethnic groups living together. Up to now, the locality has implemented 23 traffic projects, 6 electricity lines, 6 water projects with a total investment of nearly 126 billion VND.

Mr. Truong Duy Dich, Head of Hoa Long village, Kim Long commune, Chau Duc district, said that the village roads used to be muddy red soil, but now they have become paved roads, making it very convenient for villagers to travel. The government has also invested in water pipes to the homes of nearly 100 households in the village, making the villagers very happy.

Investment, support right and hit

With strong, focused, and key investments, in recent years, the rural areas of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province have increasingly prospered, and people's lives have been increasingly improved. As of June 2024, all communes in the province have met the new rural standards; 35 communes have met the advanced new rural standards and 8 communes have met the model new rural standards. 6 district-level units have been recognized by the Prime Minister for completing their tasks/meeting the new rural standards. The total number of poor households (multidimensional standards) in the province is only 1,138 households, accounting for 0.35% of the total.

In 2024, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province will continue to invest in implementing national target programs with a total allocated capital of more than 4,154 billion VND. Of which, the National Target Program 1719 alone is 124 billion VND, with disbursement reaching about 31.12% to date.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, accelerating the disbursement of investment capital for national target programs is very important, creating momentum for rural development and improving people's quality of life. This requires leaders to uphold responsibility and resolutely and synchronously carry out tasks.

“If resources are available but cannot be disbursed, there are still poor people, people in difficulty, and rural infrastructure does not ensure people's lives, then leaders of departments, branches, and localities must be responsible to the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee. Disbursement must be quick but effective, projects must be successful, and solve urgent problems in people's lives. Support programs must reach the right subjects, and there must be no policy exploitation,” Mr. Tho affirmed.
