One of the five major orientations set forth in the Resolution of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term, focusing on developing infrastructure in the southern region, especially transportation infrastructure and industrial zones and clusters, while prioritizing land clearance to attract investment, has now become a reality.
Specifically, the Thái Nguyên- Bắc Ninh -Phú Thọ connecting road, invested in by Thái Nguyên province with over 4,000 billion VND, is over 40 km long with four lanes and was inaugurated on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2nd. Prior to this, Thái Nguyên put into operation the Hanoi Capital Region's Ring Road 5, running through the province with four lanes, connecting with Bắc Ninh province.
Following the inauguration of the Hanoi Capital Region's Ring Road 5 within the province on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam (April 30th), the Hanh Phuc-Xuan Phuong and Bao Ly-Xuan Phuong industrial clusters have basically completed infrastructure construction, and a series of investment certificates have been granted to businesses with capital ranging from several hundred billion to thousands of billions of VND to build factories and production facilities.
During this period, the Phu Binh I and Phu Binh II urban areas were started construction along the Hanoi Capital Region's Ring Road 5, fundamentally changing the appearance of Phu Binh commune today. From 2024 to the present, many large-scale urban areas with modern infrastructure and beautiful landscapes have been built alongside Ring Road 5 in Pho Yen city (now Pho Yen ward).
Following the opening of the two connecting routes between Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, and Phu Tho, and the Hanoi Capital Region's Ring Road 5 through Thai Nguyen province, the province and investors commenced construction of the Yen Binh 3 and Yen Binh 2 Industrial Parks with an investment of approximately 6,000 billion VND. Land clearance is being expedited for the Phu Binh and Thuong Dinh Industrial Parks; the Tay Pho Yen Urban-Service Area and the Yen Binh Concentrated Information Technology Park are also being prepared for implementation. These are large, key industrial parks with modern infrastructure.
This shows that the investment and commissioning of transportation routes in the southern part of the province have created new and vast development opportunities, laying a solid foundation for Thai Nguyen to attract secondary investors with modern technology, create many jobs, and increase budget revenue in the coming years.
According to the leaders of the Thai Nguyen Department of Construction, during the 2020-2025 term, the province allocated nearly 15 trillion VND to build, upgrade, and expand 38 transportation projects, and nearly 30 projects have been completed to date. In addition, the central government has invested 5,750 billion VND in the Cho Moi-Bac Kan expressway project, which has commenced construction; and the Ho Chi Minh Highway project, specifically the Cho Chu-Trung Son Junction (Tuyen Quang) section passing through Thai Nguyen province, has completed land compensation, clearance, and resettlement.
The construction and completion of traffic projects have created a breakthrough in traffic infrastructure connecting smoothly with the province's traffic network and neighboring localities, opening up space for the development of industrial parks, clusters, urban areas, tourism, trade and services; contributing to promoting investment attraction.
The results have attracted 231 domestic investment projects with a total capital of 81,734 billion VND; 150 FDI projects were newly licensed and adjusted to increase capital with a total investment of 2.73 billion USD. Thereby, Thai Nguyen continues to be a bright spot attracting domestic and foreign investment capital, creating an export value of 26 to 27 billion USD/year.
The First Congress of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee, for the 2025-2030 term, set forth three development breakthroughs, focusing on developing a synchronous and modern infrastructure to serve socio-economic development, prioritizing areas such as transportation, electricity, industrial zones and clusters; trade, services, tourism, and urban development linked to the development of the Hanoi Capital Region.
According to representatives of the leadership of Thai Nguyen province, several major transportation projects will be implemented from 2026 to connect Thai Nguyen with Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, and Cao Bang provinces; complete the investment in upgrading and expanding the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen-Cho Moi and Cho Moi-Bac Kan expressways; invest in the construction of Ring Road 5 and the road along Nui Coc Lake; coordinate the construction of the Thai Nguyen (formerly Bac Kan)-Cao Bang expressway; and request the Central Government to supplement the planning and implement investment in the Lang Son-Thai Nguyen-Tuyen Quang expressway.
Following the merger, Thai Nguyen possesses a vast area, abundant potential, and numerous advantages. During the 2025-2030 term, the province plans to invest in many key transportation projects, not only to exploit its potential and advantages but also to create a larger space to attract investment, facilitate travel, strengthen connectivity and linkages with other provinces, and improve intra-regional and import-export trade to boost socio-economic development.
