Three projects on the eastern section of the North-South Expressway – Dien Chau - Bai Vot, Nha Trang - Cam Lam, and Cam Lam - Vinh Hao – will pilot non-stop toll collection and will not have barriers at the entrances.
The Ministry of Transport has just requested relevant units to pilot the implementation of a non-stop electronic toll collection system for the three projects mentioned above, following a model with no barriers at the entrance and barriers at the exit, and no mixed toll lanes. These are projects invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) method.
The ministry also requested research into selecting appropriate speed limits at the exit, ensuring the processing speed of the toll collection system, optimizing traffic flow, and ensuring vehicle safety.
Therefore, at the highway exit, the management unit still sets up barriers and toll booths. Cars entering the highway without sufficient funds in their traffic account will not be allowed to exit and will have to pay offline. According to current regulations, vehicles entering the highway must have a traffic account to pay tolls automatically.

The Vietnam Road Administration is tasked with monitoring the implementation of the pilot model in the aforementioned projects and reporting and recommending to the Ministry for consideration of moving towards a toll collection phase without barriers.
Of the three expressway projects, the 49km Nha Trang - Cam Lam section passing through Khanh Hoa province has been completed, while the Dien Chau - Bai Vot (Nghe An, Ha Tinh ) and Cam Lam - Vinh Hao (Binh Thuan) sections are still under construction and are expected to be completed in 2024.
