Heavy rain in the North, warning of flash floods and landslides

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, storm No. 11 weakened into a low pressure area, and the North and Thanh Hoa still had rain due to storm remnants from the afternoon of October 6 to the night of October 7.

At 1 p.m., the center of the low pressure area was at about 22.2 degrees North latitude; 106.8 degrees East longitude. The strongest wind in the center of the low pressure area decreased to below level 6 (below 39 km/h).

It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours, the low pressure area will continue to move mainly in the West Northwest direction, weakening and gradually dissipating.

Today (October 6), the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain; the Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa areas will have rain, moderate rain, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms.

It is forecasted that from the evening of October 6 to the end of the night of October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 70 to 150 mm, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain over 250 mm. The Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa areas will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 mm, with some areas experiencing over 200 mm.

In addition, in the evening and night of October 6, Nghe An - Ha Tinh area will have showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 20 - 40 mm, locally over 80 mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain over 150 mm/3 hours. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Warning, from October 8, heavy rain in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa tends to decrease rapidly. Natural disaster risk level due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail is level 1.

Forecast from the night of October 7 to October 15, in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa on the night of October 7, mountainous and midland areas will have moderate rain, heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms; in the Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain. From October 8, there will be showers and thunderstorms in some places, sunny during the day.

Heavy rains are forecast to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams; landslides on steep slopes. During thunderstorms, there is still a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Experts warn that people in at-risk areas need to proactively monitor the next bulletins and take measures to prevent natural disasters. Flash floods and landslides can have a very negative impact on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities. It is recommended that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take measures to prevent and respond.
