Preserving cultural identity
According to Mr. Thai Hoang Vu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Tra My district, in implementing the Resolution of the Third Congress in 2019, Bac Tra My has focused on caring for and improving the lives of ethnic minority people in the area.
Typically, in current cultural preservation efforts, all villages inhabited by ethnic minorities have their own gong and drum ensembles. Monthly activities on the pedestrian streets in the town are spearheaded by ethnic minority people from each commune to preserve and promote unique cultural values.
"All villages have been and are being invested in with cultural centers designed according to the characteristics of the ethnic minority areas, combining functions for disaster prevention and mitigation."
"New schools have been built, and transportation systems to the villages are improved. People's lives have improved, specifically demonstrated by the fact that the poverty rate among ethnic minority households decreases by more than 10% each year," Mr. Vu said.
The 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Bac Tra My District - 2024 is an opportunity for the district to reflect on and listen to the opinions of its people, thereby making further investments to develop ethnic minority areas.
In recent years, many ethnic minority households have strived to overcome poverty and develop their family economies ; however, some still rely on state investment. This is a barrier to development and the reason why the poverty rate among ethnic minority households in Bac Tra My district remains high compared to the overall poverty rate in the district.
Recognizing this limitation, Bac Tra My will implement effective solutions to overcome it. In investment implementation, the locality prioritizes the implementation of public investment programs and projects in ethnic minority areas, areas frequently affected by natural disasters, storms and floods, and disadvantaged areas; and implements the resettlement of the population according to Resolution No. 23 of the Provincial People's Council.
The district has directed the acceleration of planning and investment in infrastructure development for industrial clusters to attract businesses, with a focus on businesses investing in agricultural product and medicinal herb processing.
This contributes to creating jobs for the people, increasing their income, and solving the problem of finding markets for agricultural products and medicinal herbs that are being strongly developed by the people.
