The People's Committee of Trieu Co commune, Quang Tri province, recently held a conference to discuss solutions for developing aquaculture in the commune. Currently, the commune has 86 households participating in aquaculture with 149 ponds, covering a total area of approximately 49.7 hectares.

To date, local people have stocked approximately 6-7 million shrimp larvae and many other aquatic species on an area of about 38 hectares, including about 15.5 hectares for shrimp farming, 12.5 hectares for abalone farming, and 10 hectares for fish farming. However, aquaculture activities in the commune still face many difficulties due to the impact of climate change, unpredictable weather patterns, rising input costs, and increasingly stringent requirements for food safety, traceability, and environmental protection.
At the conference, delegates actively participated, analyzing and offering suggestions and solutions to overcome difficulties such as: planning concentrated aquaculture areas; strengthening environmental monitoring, surveillance and warning systems in aquaculture areas; regularly providing information on water quality and disease risks to enable people to proactively manage production; supporting the organization of training courses and the transfer of scientific and technical advancements in disease-free aquaculture…
Mr. Nguyen Huu Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, requested that the units under the Department review and propose key solutions to help Trieu Co commune develop sustainable aquaculture. The Provincial Agricultural Extension Center should strengthen the organization of training courses, build models applying scientific and technical advancements in aquaculture, convert to new species suitable for inefficient and abandoned shrimp farming areas in the commune, and restore and develop sustainable aquaculture...
