This morning (January 16) in Vangvieng district, Vientiane province (Laos), the handover ceremony of the Command Headquarters and campus of the 1st Infantry Division, Lao People's Army took place.
This project was built with funding from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to the Lao Ministry of National Defense .
Attending the handover ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Khamlien Outhakaysone, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Laos; Colonel Vo Van Thong, Vietnamese Defense Attaché in Laos; representatives of local government leaders and many generals, officers and soldiers of Infantry Division 1.
Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Ounchanh Dengvansom, Commander of the 1st Infantry Division, expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State and Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam for always supporting the Division in building this spacious infrastructure. The project is a symbol of the great friendship and special solidarity between the two Parties, States and Armies of the two countries.
Major General Ounchanh emphasized that the project is a valuable asset and also a gift from Vietnam to Laos on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Army (January 20, 1949 - January 20, 2024) and the 39th anniversary of the founding of the 1st Infantry Division; at the same time, he pledged to protect and use the project in a long-term and effective manner.
The total investment for the Division Headquarters and Campus is approximately 2 million USD. The Headquarters is designed with a modern design, consisting of 2 floors, each floor is 1,800 m2, with full facilities for training, education and organizing meetings of the Division.
The 1st Infantry Division is the main division of the Lao People's Army, tasked with protecting the capital Vientiane, protecting the core organs of the Lao Party and State, and is the cradle of training many elite leaders and commanders for the Lao People's Army.
Besides the combat readiness mission, the Division also supports and helps the people around the stationed area and is trusted and loved by the people.
In the joyful atmosphere of the ceremony, representatives of the two countries' Defense Ministries cut the ribbon and handed over the project to the 1st Infantry Division.
