Vietnam U20 will participate in the 2023 AFC U20 Championship finals from March 1 in Uzbekistan. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his players are in Group B with Australia U20, Iran U20 and Qatar U20.
At the end of the first half of the match between U20 Vietnam and U20 Qatar, U20 Vietnam was leading 1-0. In the 85th minute, Al Rawi defeated Van Binh on a penalty kick to equalize for U20 Qatar. But Van Truong, with a super goal in the 90th minute, helped U20 Vietnam end the match with a 2-1 victory. Thus, after 2 matches, U20 Vietnam won all, earned 6 points, and continued to lead Group B.
In the opening match, U20 Vietnam caused a surprise when they defeated U20 Australia with a score of 1-0. Nguyen Quoc Viet was the author of the only goal with a superb long-range shot.
U20 Vietnam attends the U20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.
The 2023 AFC U20 Championship finals are also the qualifiers for the 2023 U20 World Cup. The four teams with the best results in the tournament (not counting Indonesia U20, the host of the U20 World Cup) will represent Asia in the world arena.
Vietnam U20 will participate in the 2023 AFC U20 Championship finals with a squad of players from the 2003-2005 generation. Notably, most of the squad that coach Hoang Anh Tuan uses are only 17-19 years old. This squad, including players of the same age group who did not participate in the 2023 AFC U20 Championship finals, is expected to become the core of the national team in the future with a vision towards the 2026 World Cup.
