The incident occurred on May 1 on Interstate 55 (I-55) south of Springfield, Illinois, killing at least six people and injuring dozens of others, Independent reported.
According to Illinois police, the massive dust storm caused an 80-vehicle pileup. More than 30 people were taken to the hospital. Injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening, and those injured ranged in age from 2 to 80.

"The cause of the accident was due to strong winds blowing dust from farm fields onto the highway, causing limited visibility," Illinois State Police said.
Police closed a portion of I-55 in both directions to deal with the massive crash. Photos from the scene showed dust storms that reduced visibility to near zero. The vehicles that crashed were left smoking on the roadway.
Illinois Rep. Nikki Budzins said she is following the incident and urged others to be safe while driving.
"I am heartbroken by reports of serious injuries in today's crash on I-55. My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims and those hospitalized with injuries," she said.
