A humiliating 0-3 defeat at home against direct rivals Nottingham Forest in the 31st round of the 2025-2026 Premier League has pushed Tottenham close to the relegation zone.
The full-blown crisis
The distraught looks on the players' faces and the boos echoing throughout the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have become a hauntingly familiar image in recent weeks.
Losing to Nottingham Forest, a team also struggling to avoid relegation and having changed four managers this season, is the clearest evidence of Spurs' decline. They collapsed 0-3 at home, marking their fourth consecutive defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.
Tottenham haven't tasted victory in the Premier League since the beginning of 2026. Their last win was on December 28th last year, in a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
The run of 13 consecutive winless matches (5 draws, 8 losses) has equaled the second-worst record in the club's history, set back in November 1912.
The arrival of interim coach Igor Tudor proved completely ineffective. He only managed one win, one draw, and suffered five defeats in seven matches in charge.
Many negative consequences are looming.
The consequences of this poor run of form extend beyond just the professional aspect. The defeat against Nottingham Forest saw Tottenham drop to 17th place with only 30 points after 31 rounds, just one point above the relegation zone.
According to Opta's supercomputer, the North London club's chances of relegation have now skyrocketed to 22.33%. If the worst-case scenario occurs, Tottenham will face a financial shock on an unprecedented scale.
According to analysis from the BBC, relegation to the English Championship could cost them over £250 million. The financial foundation that has kept them in the "Big 6" will collapse as revenue from ticket sales, sponsorship deals, and especially television rights plummets.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire believes Tottenham's revenue cannot be maintained at the £600 million level of the previous season. Television rights revenue alone is expected to fall from £190 million to less than £45 million.
The biggest pressure right now is the enormous cost structure the club is carrying. Tottenham's wage bill is currently inflating at around £276 million per year.
According to The Athletic , if the team is relegated, most first-team players will be forced to take a 50% pay cut based on contract terms. This would undoubtedly lead to a mass exodus of key players, plunging the team into a severe personnel crisis.
Furthermore, Tottenham is also burdened with a massive debt of over £300 million in unpaid transfer fees.
Tottenham's remaining seven matches are considered finals, with an incredibly demanding schedule. They will have to play away against Sunderland, Wolves, Aston Villa, and Chelsea, and host Brighton, Leeds, and Everton.
If they don't wake up quickly, the "Roosters" risk being relegated to the lower league next season.
