Speaking at the ceremony, Journalist Nguyen Khac Van, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, said that on April 30, 1975, Saigon City and the South were liberated. Just 5 days after that great event, on May 5, 1975, according to the Decision of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Regional Party Committee (now Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee), a large-format daily newspaper called Saigon Giai Phong was printed and distributed in large quantities, meeting the information needs and demands of the Party Committee, government and people of the newly liberated Saigon City.
Over the past half century, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper has affirmed its role as one of the leading political newspapers in Vietnam, currently the main political newspaper of Ho Chi Minh City, with rich content, from politics, economics, culture to social life. The development and maturity of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper is also clearly demonstrated through social and charitable activities.
Journalist Nguyen Khac Van said that over the past 50 years, under the direction, guidance, and valuable and timely support of all sectors and levels, directly from the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper has always been steadfast in its motto of "Bringing the Party's ideas to the people - Bringing the people's hearts to the Party", honestly and deeply reflecting the political, economic, cultural and social life of the city and the whole country. Currently, on average, each day on the Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper ecosystem, there are about 1.6 million visits and interactions, and the Newspaper aims to reach 2 million visits by the end of this year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le said that Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper has affirmed its pioneering role in orienting information, building trust, creating social consensus, encouraging revolutionary movements and spreading the aspiration for the city's development. The newspaper has introduced and praised many good people and good deeds in various fields; at the same time, it has continuously fought against negative manifestations within the Party, the State apparatus and in society with a spirit of promoting responsibility for construction, bringing practical results.
“The newspaper’s fighting spirit has been increasingly strengthened, especially in the fight to criticize deviant viewpoints in all areas of life, to protect the revolutionary traditions of our Party and people; to protect Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thought, the Party’s guidelines, and to firmly follow the socialist path. That journey is closely linked to the strong rise of Ho Chi Minh City - from a post-war city to a civilized, modern, dynamic, creative, constantly developing and affectionate urban area like today,” emphasized comrade Nguyen Thi Le.
On behalf of the City Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Comrade Nguyen Thi Le respectfully acknowledged and commended the active and effective contributions of generations of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper staff who have promoted the revolutionary, dynamic and creative traditions; strived day and night to bring readers and people of the city truly beneficial spiritual food; fulfilled well the tasks of writers working in the Party Committee's newspaper, constantly demonstrating themselves as the voice of the Party, government and people of the city over the past 50 years.
On this occasion, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to the collective of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper and 26 individuals who had outstanding achievements in information and propaganda work to carry out the political tasks of the city's press and publishing system on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first publication of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper.
Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded the Traditional Flag to Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper. On this occasion, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper also organized the summary and award ceremony of the photo contest "Land of a Thousand Flowers".
