The provincial museum was established in 1997, located on the Cao Hill area, the center of Vinh Yen city. After nearly 30 years of operation, the museum is preserving over 11,000 artifacts and scientific documents recreating the formation and development process of history and culture of Vinh Phuc land.
In the outdoor exhibition space, the museum displays large-sized artifacts associated with typical historical events and figures of the province in the struggles to protect the Fatherland, typically the T34 tank - number 137, one of the first tanks brought from Vinh Phuc to the southern battlefield.
Inside, the exhibition house of artifacts is arranged by the provincial museum on 2 floors, with a total area of 2,500m2, including exhibition space, thematic galleries and 7 themes of displaying artifacts through each historical period such as: Vinh Phuc - Natural landscape, homeland of ancient Vietnamese people; Cultural life of the people of Vinh Phuc ethnic groups; Tradition of fighting to build and defend the country of Vinh Phuc people from the beginning of the Christian era to 1930; Revolutionary movement of Vinh Yen - Phuc Yen people in the period of 1930 - 1945; Vinh Phuc in the resistance war against French colonialism (1946-1954); Vinh Phuc in the cause of building socialism and fighting for national unification (1955-1975); Vinh Phuc in the period of implementing 2 strategic tasks of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland (1976 to present).
Over time, the museum is not only a place to preserve historical and cultural values, but also a bridge between the past and the present. Each artifact preserved here is a living "witness".
At the Provincial Museum, special collections are preserved including ancient Vietnamese remains of the Phung Nguyen culture; human objects from different historical periods made of wood, paper, and metal; ceramic and porcelain household items typical of the Dong Dau culture; the national treasure of the enameled ceramic tower of Tro Pagoda; weapons and equipment of the people and revolutionary soldiers...
These are rare documents and artifacts dating back thousands of years, indigenous knowledge that has existed alongside the nation, tools for daily life and labor, and war artifacts that have become cultural and historical values.
To create richness and diversity for the exhibition booth, every year, the Provincial Museum has actively implemented a propaganda plan, mobilizing people from all walks of life in the province to donate artifacts and documents.
Through mobilization, private antique collectors, historical witnesses, and revolutionary families inside and outside the province have donated hundreds of documents and war memorabilia. In 2024 alone, the Provincial Museum has collected 224 additional artifacts on various topics.
Along with the work of collecting, inventorying, and preserving artifacts, in order to serve the needs of visitors, the Provincial Museum opens its doors to welcome visitors from Tuesday to Saturday every week and regularly organizes thematic exhibitions.
Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Explanation Department of the Provincial Museum, Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, said: “It is estimated that the Provincial Museum welcomes over 40,000 visitors every year. The highest number of visitors is on major holidays and national anniversaries such as Southern Liberation Day, April 30; National Day, September 2; War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27; Vietnam People's Army Founding Day, December 22, etc.
Visitors to the museum are mostly students from schools in and outside the province who come to learn about the value of historical, cultural and revolutionary relics in the locality. In addition, many groups of veterans have come here to visit and were deeply moved when seeing the artifacts, vehicles and images associated with soldiers during the arduous but heroic years of resistance.
Visiting the Provincial Museum, Tran Minh Anh, a student at To Hieu Secondary School, shared: “Seeing the relics and artifacts displayed in the museum with my own eyes, I felt like I was closer to history, the historical knowledge in class became more familiar and vivid. From there, it helped me to appreciate and be proud of the history and culture of the nation and strive to study and be responsible for my family, hometown and country.”
In addition to displaying artifacts in the museum's gallery, on holidays and anniversaries of the province and the country, the Provincial Museum also coordinates to organize mobile exhibitions by topic.
The topics that left many impressions include: "Vinh Phuc studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" at the Provincial Theater; "Tam Long Plantation Party Cell - a milestone in the history of Vinh Phuc Provincial Party Committee" at the traditional house of Huong Son commune, Binh Xuyen district; "Cultural heritage space of Cao Lan ethnic people" in Dong Dong village, Quang Yen commune, Song Lo district; "The 9th Festival of Ethnic Groups in the Northeast region" in Lang Son city, Lang Son province...
The exhibitions not only attract a large number of people inside and outside the province but also international visitors to visit and admire.
With the continuous development of society, the museum is the place to preserve and highlight the historical stages and important milestones of the province through each period from the past to the present. Thereby, educating the people about history and culture, especially the young generation, must effectively contribute to preserving and promoting the value of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the homeland in the cause of national renewal.
