Protect the environment with practical actions

In the current trend of green economic development, activities such as waste sorting, recycling old items or saying no to plastic bags are gradually becoming habits of people in the province. Contributing to this change, the press is acting as a bridge between policy and people, inspiring changes in environmental protection behavior through simple actions.

Effectiveness of waste classification model at source

Recently, Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Hong (Dieu Hoa Hamlet, Bach Dang Commune, Tan Uyen City) has maintained the habit of sorting waste at the source. “Previously, I only sorted the waste to make it easier to clean. After hearing the Commune Radio launch and the commune officials promote the waste sorting program, I found that this work not only cleans the garden, cleans the house but also contributes to protecting the living environment. I also encourage people around to participate in sorting waste at the source,” Ms. Hong shared.

Currently, many people in Bach Dang commune actively participate in sorting waste at source. This result is achieved, in addition to the propaganda work of all levels and sectors, there is also an important role of media agencies and grassroots radio stations in propagating environmental protection. Programs such as "Eliminate pollution points - Turn landfills into flower gardens", "Live green every day", "Plant flowers, green trees" ... of local media agencies, commune newsletters have contributed to spreading green living awareness in the community.

According to the leader of Bach Dang commune, the story of changing behavior in environmental protection is only sustainable when people understand, and the press is the tool to stimulate that understanding. News and articles that are close to the people, relevant to the work, mixed with emotions, expressed vividly, with real people, real events... have helped information about environmental protection to be easily received and spread to the community.

In the railway commercial housing area (DA1 area) in Di An ward, Di An city, in recent years, local residents have participated in sorting waste at source. Ms. Le Thi Huong, a resident of Road 2, DA1 area, said that since the program of sorting waste at source was disseminated and promoted, her family has formed the habit of sorting and dumping waste on the prescribed day, no longer dumping different types of waste together as before. Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh Ha, a resident of DA1 area, said that when they first started sorting waste at source, people were still confused about the sorting, but after being trained and instructed, everyone has now become familiar with this job. Her family sorts inorganic and organic waste into two different bins placed in the house, then takes them to the designated place for collection and treatment. Sorting waste at source not only maintains environmental hygiene for the family but also contributes to protecting the environment and urban beauty.

Spreading green environment from the press

In Bach Dang commune, Tan Uyen city, the model of Women's Club collecting scrap and turning waste into capital has been replicated and spread. The story of women collecting bottles and cardboard boxes to raise charity funds to help women in difficult circumstances has touched thousands of hearts, attracting many organizations to join hands to support.

Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Lan, Head of the Women's Club for collecting scrap and turning waste into capital, said: "Initially, we only hoped that through this activity, we would impact people's awareness in protecting the environment. But when press agencies such as Binh Duong Radio and Television and Binh Duong Newspaper reported on the project, many places called to inquire and learn about the model. The provincial authorities also invited us to share and communicate about the model in many other places. I think the press is the launching pad for ideas and models to spread further."

Not only providing information, the press is becoming a companion of all levels, sectors and communities in environmental protection activities. Binh Duong Newspaper and Binh Duong Radio and Television regularly carry out a series of articles instructing on recycling organic waste into fertilizer, introducing handicraft products from old items, etc., contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of everyone in protecting the environment.

Environmental experts say that in the context of rapid industrialization and urbanization in the country, the pressure to handle waste in production and daily life is very high. The press and media must be one step ahead to change people's awareness of environmental protection. Just one change in behavior, such as throwing trash in the right place or using a personal water bottle, can contribute to reducing environmental pollution. When the press accompanies the community, even small environmental protection habits will contribute to creating a green economic ecosystem...
