In reality, many tragic accidents have occurred when children fly kites near power lines, climb power poles or rooftops near power grids, retrieve kites stuck on power lines, catch birds or bees in areas with electricity, or fish under high-voltage power lines.
What is concerning is that the victims did not necessarily have to directly touch the electrical wires, because high voltage can discharge electricity if the safe distance is violated, causing severe burns, serious injuries, and even death. Each accident not only leaves pain and loss for the family but also serves as a warning about the responsibility of families, schools, and society as a whole in equipping children with electrical safety skills.

To ensure a safe and stable electricity supply for the people during the hot season of 2026, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) – the unit managing and supplying electricity in 17 northern provinces and cities – has aggressively implemented many solutions in the management and operation of the power grid, safety inspections, and the promotion of protection of the power line safety corridor. At substations, power poles, and power line corridors, the power sector has reinforced barriers and installed sufficient warning signs for hazards and high-voltage areas. Local power companies have also intensified awareness campaigns in schools and residential areas; distributed leaflets, conducted mobile broadcasts, and disseminated electrical safety skills to the public.
However, all technical efforts and protective measures will be difficult to achieve high effectiveness without the self-awareness of each citizen, the concern of parents, and the joint supervision of the community. Entering the 2026 summer vacation, EVNNPC advises parents to closely manage their children's play activities, while clearly explaining the dangers of electrical infrastructure and the potential risks of electrical accidents. Children must absolutely not trespass on electrical infrastructure: They must not climb power poles, nor cross the barriers of substations to retrieve objects, catch birds, or catch bees in any way.
Furthermore, people should not fly kites, throw objects, set off fireworks, or use metal-coated plastic near power lines; they should absolutely not fish under power lines or cast fishing rods near areas where power lines cross rivers or lakes. When discovering broken power lines, leaning power poles, violations of the power line safety corridor, or any other actions that pose a risk to electrical safety, people should promptly notify the power company or local authorities for timely action.
Protecting the safety corridor of the power grid is also protecting the lives of yourself, your family, and the community. Every reminder from parents, every timely intervention by citizens can contribute to preventing unfortunate accidents during the summer. When detecting violations of electrical safety or incidents, people should contact the EVNNPC Customer Care Center via hotline 19006769 (available 24/7) for timely support and resolution.
